Fish N Gritz Feat. mizzle boy ''she's a star''
BIO
Very few rap artists over the years have had the staying power to remain relevant for generations and cross cultural lines from the underground into the mainstream. While most rappers make major splashes with one-hit wonders and are gone within the blink of any eye, there is only a small handful of exceptional entertainers like LL Cool J, Jay-Z and Scarface whose influences are everlasting.
Miami-based mainstay Fish N Gritz is such an exception. With a musical track record that spans more than a decade, Fish N Gritz is a major inspiration in Southern Hip-Hop and has imparted his talents to a laundry list of collaborators including Cash Money Records CEO Brian “Birdman” Williams, the 2 Live Crew and funk/ soul band Cameo front man Larry Blackman.
Now with a brand new, club-jumping single “She’s A Star”
“I made a few wrong decisions. I was in the streets heavy,” says Fish. “But that’s not something to brag about. If you go back to my old neighborhood, they will tell you about me. Luckily, I left all of that behind.”
Although he was knee deep in the streets, Fish always had a love for music. By the age of 17, he had written several of his own songs and performed locally when he was introduced to well-established local artist Balli Boy. They formed a group named True Playaz and recorded their debut single “Oh My Gosh” in 1993, which was produced by the renowned DJ Mr. Mixx of the legendary 2 Live Crew.
The record became a local smash hit in the Southeast. Further building on their strengths and establishing their fan base, True Playaz shortly released their independent debut album The Roughneck Posse, which featured such notable artists as Birdman, Insane Clown Posse, JT Money and Tupac Shakur’s right hand man Big Skye of rap group the Outlaws.
After the group’s success, Fish N Gritz was asked to record with platinum trailblazers the 2 Live Crew. He was featured on the group’s 1998 album The Real One and was appeared on songs “Ride With Me (Bottom Style)” and “World Famous.”
Fish N Gritz went on tour with 2 Live where he began to build his fan base of millions. And for the last seven years, he has traveled with group member Fresh Kid Ice, continuing to build his fan base and performing internationally. While on tour, Fish founded his own label, FNG Entertainment, and formed his new group, Fish-N-Gritz and Da Mermaids. Their new album, Fish N Gritz Entertainment, is set to be released via FNG Entertainment.
Fish recently launched his own Internet radio station HaterRadioFM.com in 2004 and is now enjoying the success of his runaway single “She’s A Star,” which was produced by Mizzle Boy, who also laid down beats for Lil Wayne’s hit single “Pop Bottles.” Currently, Fish is awaiting the release of his forthcoming album Stay Out My Business due early 2010. Without question, Fish N Gritz is a legend in his own right.
“I know how to make people have fun. Everybody doesn’t have to be a drug dealer or a killer. I’m on a different level than that,” he explains. “I am a leader and I have to give the people something other than the streets. I got the passion to make good music. I’ve had this passion to do this since I was a kid.”
