Exclusive: Pam Grier on Richard Pryor's "Contamination" & His Fear to Be Sober

Pam Grier has just released some CRAZY details about her relationship with comedian Richard Pryor. In her new memoir, Foxy: My Life In Three Acts, the 'Foxy Brown' actress reveals that sex with Pryor caused cocaine to enter her body. HipHollywood spoke with the legendary actress and she further expounded on the quote that completely shocked the media, as well as gave us a glimpse into their difficult relationship. Grier claims that Pryor used his career as partial encouragement to continue doing cocaine.

Check out our highlights and exclusive video interview on the flipside.

-THE CONTAMINATION CONTROVERSY

“The main reason we broke up is because he compromised my health. Because he had been indulging in drugs since he was 13 - basically for 40 years, his body was contaminated. It can and will contaminate a woman. Whether it was controversy or not, my medical facts say that if he’s putting it on his body, it’s in his prostate gland, it’s collecting; it’s accumulating.”

- GRIER INITIALLY CHOSE “LOVE” OVER “HEALTH”

“It was compromising my health, so when I asked him can we protect my health, he rejected the issues. I said, ‘Ok, well then it’s my health or love.’ And I love him, so we have a relationship, and the next thing you know, I’m extremely ill.”

- WHEN GRIER FINALLY LEFT

“I said, ‘Richard would you like to go to the doctor? He would love to have private counsel with you.’ He didn’t, and I said ‘Well, I understand, that’s okay, that’s your choice if you wish. I honor that.’ When I left, he was extremely upset and I said ‘You’ll be fine, but I still have to take care of my family, my mom. I wanted to have children and he had already had four. After me, he married someone.”

- ON PRYOR BEING AFRAID TO BE SOBER

“Even to his last days, Jennifer (Pryor’s widow) took great care of him. I don’t think I would have been able to. I’m a truth serum, I’m not an enabler. He wanted to go cold turkey, but he really would have had to work at it. He was afraid that he might not be funny if he was sober.”
