Dwayne "Wango" Cobbins, a New Orleans man believed to be an associate of
C-Murder, quietly pleaded guilty to tampering with the rapper's case last year according to court records obtained by
The Times-Picayune.
C-Murder, born
Corey Miller is accused of killing sixteen year old
Steve Thomas in January 2002 during a brawl at the defunct Platinum Club in Louisiana.
The rapper is currently awaiting re-trial. He has been under house arrest since he was released on $500,000 bond in 2006 after his murder conviction was overturned.
According to
The Times-Picayune, Cobbins admitted to charges of tampering with evidence by 'threatening to use force against one or more witnesses' and 'causing the delay or prevention of information' to authorities.
Police believe
Cobbins has ties to
C-Murder because when he was arrested in August 2002 he had a chain-medallion sporting the rapper's record label,
TRU Records.
Cobbins was also raised in the same neighbourhood as
C-Murder.
Cobbins' mother,
Adeene Cobbins, revealed to
The Times-Picayune that she knows
C- Murder but refused to speak on the case.
"I can't get into that situation right now,"
Cobbins said.
Police say
Cobbins tampered with the
C-Murder case between
Thomas' killing and his 2002 arrest.
Cobbins initially entered his guilty plea as part of a plea agreement five years ago but the deal was not finalized until November 2008.
Cobbins received nine years for tampering with the case but he is also currently serving an additional 24 year sentence for two drug related charges.
Documents detailing
Cobbins' exact actions in tampering with
C-Murder's case have been sealed and cannot be viewed by the public.
C-Murder's lawyer and the attorneys prosecuting the rapper declined to speak on
Cobbins' case.
Cobbins is a potential witness on the prosecutors’ list.
C-Murder's re-trial on second degree murder charges is scheduled to begin on April 20th.
