UFC President Dana White Thinks Mixed Martial Arts Should Be An Olympic Sport. Do You Agree? [Video/Poll]

Video And Poll After The Jump

Dana White, Frank Fertitta III and Lorenzo Fertitta have built a powerhouse company in Zuffa, LLF. The company has taken almost complete control of mixed martial arts all over the world through a series of acquisitions of their main competitors like Pride, Strikeforce, the WEC and similar smaller companies. They have also formed a powerful alliance with Fox by agreeing to a seven-year deal giving the network the rights to televise bouts in prime time.

However there are still a couple of hurdles the company would like to overcome. Despite being one of the fastest growing sports in the word, with licenses to hold events in almost every country and state in the U.S., New York still won't allow the sport to be legalized in their state.

The UFC would also like to see mixed martial arts become an Olympic sport. In a recent interview with TMZ, Dana White listed reasons he feels the mixed martial arts should be allowed in the Olympics.

"Just think about it," Dana said. "Boxing you can punch to the head and body. Judo you can do throws and you can do submissions. Taekwondo you can kick and punch. And wrestling you can take down and you can do throws. All those things are all what the UFC is mixed martial arts. So we should bring them all together."

Do you agree with Dana? Would mixed martial arts be a sport you would like to see in the Olympics

No. Imagine having to fight 4 or 5 fight over 2 weeks. It takes months to prepare for 1 fight.

I love MMA but I think putting it in the olympics would ruin the sport for what it is. Some of them fights get really bloody. But he has some great points.

Greebuh you dumb s*** I said the sport is too violent for the Olympics image. Blood, limbs get snapped, cuts, brutal knockouts, thats not something the Olympics will like. They would have to change rules, add gear to fighters which would take away from what the sport is. I love the sport of mma, been a hardcore fan for over 10 years and I would have no problem if mma was allowed I just dont think they will ever allow it because its too violent for their image. BJJ I can see being added first.
YOu think the Olympics are eager to add a sport where this happens?

I think it deserves to be an Olympic sport - but not yet, MMA needs more time for growth before getting worldwide recognition and to be in the Olympics.
Although off topic I think actual individual martial arts that are in MMA. In this case, imagine Muay Thai kickboxing, you'd have Thailand and mainly Dutch fighters in the Netherlands be the medalists while everyone else don't do too well (I'm sure Brazil, US, and other nations can compete with it though). Or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, obviously Brazil since they technically invented it, then US, and possibly Canada or Japan. But I guess that's the beauty of MMA, it's a mix of various martial arts into a combat sport, though let's be honest - countries like US and Brazil would dominate, you might get a person who could medal possibly from Japan or Russia - but MMA is ruled by US/Brazil as is.
I guess the other question is, if MMA was accepted into the Olympics, would the current professional MMA fighters be allowed in? Or will they be amateur level combatants like seen in boxing? I just don't think MMA will be accepted into the Olympics since after a fight, one fighter may have won but could have sustained an injury or cut of some sort that may not allow that person to fight again in short notice as that fighter has advanced.
