-A sex tape is released featuring Brandy's little brother, Ray-J and an unknown Kim Kardashian. After the tape is released, both Kim Kardashian and Ray-J become huge stars.

- 50 Cent placed investment funds into the Glaceau parent company and in turn they
produced the grape flavored water titled 'Formula 50' in his name. The drink which was co-created by 50 has sold 10 million bottles and counting since its October debut. Coca-Colaeventutally bought Glaceau for a cool $4.1 billion making 50 millions of dollars. This was one of the biggest co-branding deals in hip-hop history.

-Da Brat was involved in the altercation that ended in assault on a club-goer at a Halloween party. Da Brat supposedly attacked her from behind, striking her in the face with a rum bottle. She was sentenced to three years in prison, seven years of probation, and 200 hours of community service

-C-Murder is sentenced to life in prison for the fatal shooting of a 16-year old

-US Airways Flight crashes into the Hudson River. Miraculously Captain Sully lands the plane safely on water and saves the lives of all 155 people on the aircraft.

-Chris Brown and Rihanna get into a physical fight and Rihanna is left bruised, bloodied and battered.

-MTV names Jay-Z Hottest MC of 2009

-Digital Television transition in the United States: the switchover from analog to exclusively digital broadcasting of free over-the-air television programming

-a relatively unknown artist from Toronto named Drake releases a mixtape titled “So Far Gone.” The tape was a big success and eventually led to Drake signing with Lil Wayne’s Young Money imprint.

-Shyne is released from prison and deported to Belize after serving over 10 years

-Miami rapper Rick Ross is exposed and outed as a former Correctional Officer who fabricated his life story when pictures are leaked onto the internet showing Ross in uniform
