The-Dream Says Black Singer's In The U.S. Can't Do Soul Music Anymore "We Love Adele Singing It, But Beyonce Singing It? No, The Tempo's Too Slow."

The-Dream is the man behind tons of huge pop hits like Rihanna's "Umbrella," Beyonce's "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)," and J. Holiday's "Bed" to name a few. Because he is a songwriter and also a performer it's his job to take note of trends within the music industry. One trend that he's noticed that he finds kind of alarming is the lack of soul music coming from black entertainers these days in the U.S.

"It's called rhythm and blues; they just took the blues out of it for so long. What's crazy is that blacks can't do soul records any more." he told the UK's Guardian. "We love Adele singing it, but Beyoncé singing it? No, the tempo's too slow, gimme the club hit. Now the blacks in America are responsible for the pop records, and everybody else is singing soulful records. It's weird to me. We're pigeonholed over there."

Take a minute to think about it. Is he right? Or is he exaggerating a bit too much?

If the majority of the music business had a tenth of Adele's talent, people would still buy albums all the time.

yes The Blues have been taken out of the category of R&B so long, but I think it's because you can only sing about the blues for a certain amount of decades, before you get tired of being blue and just focusing on things that pop within the culture; but you cant hide the fact that The blues still exist with our people, I think the elite singers just dont feel like bearing their despair with them, hence Raheem Devaughn

@1THUG aka HOLLYWOOD COKE!!
We can do soul but it won't sell. I think that's the point he's makin. Mostly cause we black folks sold out on real music and can't go back now. Same s*** happened with Hip Hop and Jazz. The real s*** has been pushed back underground.

The man does have a point. Ask Yourselves what part of Ushers OMG single is R&B let alone soul? but ask him what genre of Artiste he is and can tell you homeboy will say he is R&B /Soul Artiste. I dont know if its the records companys who want let them go down that route or its just thier own doing for the money. Its not like we dont have folks doing Soul and R&B anymore,......hell the homeboy Keith Sweat still singing. But they dont get the recognition they deserve anymore because we dont hear them on the radio anymore. The whole thing gone pop.

its Dream's lack of understanding the difference between a true singer, like adele, Usher, Maxwell, Brian McKnight,R.Kel ,Whitney, Mariah and someone like a Beyonce, who is a great artist but not known to be a "singer" who can flat out "sing". adele is a pretty singer but becuz no one is even "singing" anymore(cuz its mainly dance stuff) thats why adele is getting soo much attention....and cuz she also has great songs too.
