"The-Dream is a gifted songwriter and producer who writes from a unique cultural point of view. This rare ability sets him apart from all other writers and producers out there," said Weiss.

The-Dream, real name Terius Nash, has a proven track record as a hit maker having penned songs like "Umbrella" for Rihanna"Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" for Beyonce, "Touch My Body" for Mariah Carey and many more. Now he will be looking to find new talent for Def Jam.

According to a statement issued on Oct. 8, The-Dream “will have a comprehensive, broad reaching A&R portfolio.” He will work with both new and established talent at the label, and also work in a production capacity with artists on the Def Jam roster.

Read what The-Dream has to say about his new position below.

I am committed as I have been previously to bringing the power of belief in the artist back to the forefront.
I share a unique view of an artist and as well as the business of music. I, with the help of many others, have ran a successful business for the last five years in the midst of the 'Digital Change.'  My concentration and effort will be to the artist to succeed in their dreams and goals. I've been a part of watching and participating in the success of many great women and men including Beyonce, Rihanna, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion to name a few. Music means more than just a download, it’s life to the culture and also the people who listen. This is a new exciting yet critical time for music – ‘You Meet Change with Change!’

I am shocked that a record label is willing to continue throwing money out the window. no one buys records anymore and 95% of the artists on these labels can't create one good song, much less 10 for an album. Two things this guy needs to do if he wants Def Jam to put out better product......#1...QUIT the music biz. #2 make IDJ a privately held organization instead of being part of a publicly traded entity so they can go back to nurturing talent instead of meeting quarterly numbers by cranking out radio songs. Def Jam sucks, the Dream sucks.

He's a songwriter, alot of rappers don't want a written rap, otherwise you'll get dissed (ghostwriter) but he's talented, so DEF JAM needs new hits, the only hit they got is defjam playstation and they gave you Rick Ross haha...
