If he left her in jail, she would have been even angrier when she got out and maybe used a shotgun. I know he had to have seen signs that she was crazy before all of this, but never thought she would take it that far. She had to blast him in his sleep cause she knew if he was awake he may have ducked the shot and snatched her up.
