Richard Pryor's Widow, Jennifer Gives Mike Epps Her Blessing To Play Her Husband In Movie. Says Eddie Murphy Could Never Have That Role
Mike Epps will portray late comedic genius Richard Pryor in an upcoming film about jazz legend Nina Simone. Epps got the blessing of Pryor's widow, Jennifer Pryor, when he personally reached out to her to ask for permission.
"That was very sweet and respectful that he called me first. I am happy that they picked him. He is a real good guy," Jennifer told TMZ.
Because of Mike's gesture, Jennifer is also considering him to portray her husband in an upcoming biopic.
Jennifer is producing the movie and says she believes Epps is one of the few actors capable of an "authentic portrayal" of Pryor.
One actor/comedian who Jennifer will never allow to portray her late husband is Eddie Murphy. Jennifer adds that Pryor would want "someone authentic like himself" in that role.
"Having Eddie Murphy play Richard Pryor would be like having Al Jolson play Malcolm X," she said. (Jolson is an early 20th century white actor known for his blackface performances.)

GOOD ... MIKE EPPS is the one who could be MADE to look the MOST LIKE ... PYROR & MIKE EPPS .. ALWAYS BEEN & ALWAYS WILL BE ... REAL .. NO MATTER how much MONEY or SUCCESS he has ... I am GLAD ... MARLON WAYANS aint get the ROLE also ... cuz he was the FIRST PERSON who made noise or was supposed to play PRYOR in a MOVIE about his LIFE ... But MARLON is to ANOREXIC looking & NOT as FUNNY anymore & Yeah EDDIE MURPHY definitely does NOT DESERVE that ROLE

Hmmm, just looked it up. Guess it was all BS. She wouldn't sign off on the biopic movie movie when Marlon was attached according to some sources but she was also on Sway a while back and said the kids arent really involved. But she'd rather see just a good actor like a Mos Def or Jeffery Wright to play him. Which i agree with...get the best ACTOR for the job. Hope fully that's what they will do when they finally do the biopic if than when it ever happens.

What ppl dont understand is that Eddie Murphy made money off doing all the things Richard did. So in a way his wife is giving someone else a chance. Plus Epps looks a whole lot like Richard. Eddie is over paid and haven't given us a good movie since...since...damn see there I cant even remember...Im a fan of both and I think Epps will benefit more and I would much rather see Epps then Marlon Wayans.
