Former boxing champion Oscar De La Hoya, is opening up about his infidelity and the drug addiction that ultimately led to him checking into a rehab facility.
In an interview with Univision, De La Hoya admits to abusing alcohol and cocaine and even contemplating suicide.
"I don't have the courage to take my own life, but I was thinking about it," De La Hoya said. "There were drugs [as well]. My drug of choice was cocaine and alcohol. Cocaine was recent. The last 2 years, last 2 1/2 years and I depended more in the alcohol than the cocaine. It took me to a place where I felt safe. It took me to a place where I felt as if nobody can say anything to me. It took me to a place where I just can reach out and grab my mom [who died of breast cancer in 1990].”
The Golden Boy CEO also admitted to being unfaithful to his wife of almost ten years, singer Millie Corretjer.
"We are obviously not talking a Tiger Woods here, but I was unfaithful," De La Hoya admitted.
After undergoing treatment at the Betty Ford clinic in May 2011, De La Hoya is said to be three months sober.
