Lupe Fiasco Says He's Scared Of The Culture Chief Keef Represents [Video]

One of the hottest young rappers to emerge in the last year has been Chicago's Chief Keef. His song "I Don't Like" took the nation by storm and helped him secure a deal with Interscope. Fellow Chicago native Lupe Fiasco was asked about his opinion of Keef in a recent interview and he gave a rather surprising answer.

"Chief Keef scares me," Lupe said. "Not him specifically, just the culture he represents. Specifically in Chicago and I don't speak this about any other city because I'm not from there. But my family lives in Chicago. My nephews and my cousins, my friends and my peoples... they all in those hoods that he represents when you drive through Chicago. The hoodlums, I don't wanna call Chief Keef a hoodlum, but the hoodlums, the gangsters and the ones you see killing each other. The murder rate in Chicago is skyrocketing and you see who is doing it and perpetrating it they all look like Chief Keef," Lupe continued. "The dreads, it's so visceral. And then when I seen him I was like, 'Oh my God he looks just like Chicago and he looks like my nephew.' He could be any kid on the street. And to hear the things that he raps about specifically. Comparing it to you open up the newspaper and there's 22 shootings this weekend. And the next day there's 3. And you know who's doing it, it scares me."

I whole heartly agree with Lupe. I bet Keefy don't even realize what image he is putting out in his city & it's sickening cause all he is representing is getting money by blood or being cut throat. Plus his songs are wack but of course the dumb kids don't know any better. Someone should knock this lame out the game along with a bunch of others.

Funny how yall scared like chicken little. Lmao.... I'm not a fan of chief, only heard his song the remix (Dont like). I think its perfect that he raps about what he's surrounded by. Its reality rap,,, not this commercial bs most rappers lie about. Keep it real most rappers get rich and forget the f****** the hood they luckily made out from. Question? What should he rap about?? Being rich and bling bling? Keep it real thats all that matter. Who gives a f*** if yall scared!!!

Yet and still he blew up and the majority of the audience finds hype s*** ("I Don't Like") too entertaining to care about a problem they don't have to deal with, i.e living in the hood of Chicago. Lupe makes a good point, but it's from a position most people who buy this music can't relate too or simply don't care about. N**** in the burbs don't give a f*** why Chief Keef is who he is or makes the kind of music he makes, they just want to get hype to that s***.

I'd have to agree with Lupe here, Keef basically trying to put this violent hood mentality into his music and it's too easy for the haters to say when the next kid in Chi-Town gets killed that it's Keef's fault or whoever. It can't be helped that the ignorant will pin the blame easily on an 'artist/rapper' on their music though. In the end, who suffers? People who get shot or killed portraying the life they hear on whether or not it's real.
