J. Cole Talks About Recording 'New York Times' With 50 Cent On MTV's RapFix Live [Video]

Video After The Jump

J. Cole was one of the in-studio guests on Wednesdays edition of MTV's RapFix Live. He spoke on collaborating with Kendrick Lamar, TLC and 50 Cent on his album, Born Sinner.

"That was incredible (working with 50). The features on this album, a lot of them I was blessed," Cole said. "We're in a day and age where you just send (a song) away and it comes back. I actually recorded with TLC. I got T-Boz in L.A. and Chili in Atlanta. With 50 it was the same thing. He just happened to be in L.A. and I had that song and I was only humming the melodies.' I just stole 50 Cent melodies and I was just humming it on the hook. I was like, 'man if 50 do this hook it would be so amazing.' I played him the joint and he said, 'I could tell you were thinking about me when you did the melodies. So he just sat and filled in the words. I got see 50 Cent literally write. It was a wild experience with 50 in there."

The album is fire. The bonus tracks, including NY times, are better than the last couple songs though imo.

'I could tell you were thinking about me when you did the melodies.' Lol 50's impact on todays genreration of rappers shouldn't be underestimated. G-Unit fathered a lot of styles

Come listen to these New York rhymes
A southern n**** with a New York mind
In the concrete jungle of Queens trying to be Kings
Getting to the money of sins by any means
As I, watch it all pan out, try not to stand out
Fish out of water, yet an official reporter
Up here, life is a b**** I blow a kiss at her daughter
In a city where n***** will leave you s*** outta order
So yeah, you heard the news, disturbing news
Shot a brother in the head, thank the lord he ain't dead
Was in a coma for months, eyes ain't opened them once
My n**** visibally stressed in a mess he's smoking his blunt
What could I say, I can't relate to that
All I do is pray for that
This the city god told me "Go and make it" at
I got a date with destiny, I'm running late for that
Grab a paper, hey kid, you gotta pay for that

[Hook : 50 Cent
