Interview with Scott Isbell (Wu-Tang Management Jimmy Kang) S.M.I.L.E.

"I have learned at a
young age exactly who is my friend and who is truly not a friend. Leaches hurt
me. People who I thought were my friends turned out to be just two-faced
leaches whom only wanted to use me and then threw me under the bus when I
wasn’t of any use to them any longer."

WHERE ARE YOU FROM? WHAT DO YOU DO?

My name is Scott Isbell and I am a Pop singer from Boston, Massachusetts. I
grew up in a town right outside of Boston, so I can honestly say that Boston has
been my home since I was born. I go to school in Boston and live right in the
city, so it’s a win-win situation. Bruins fan for life. Black and Gold all day baby. I
have studied at Berklee College of Music and now am also studying at Emerson
College.

I’ve been singing ever since I could talk. Elvis Presley was the first artist I ever
became obsessed over. Then came Mike Jackson. Music is truly my life. I’m
currently managed under Wu-Tang Management by Jimmy Kang, the VP of Wu-
Tang Management. I am Jimmy’s first ever Pop artist, and since meeting Jimmy
when I was around 16, I have shared the stage with the likes of the Wu-Tang
Clan, Ne-Yo, Cappadonna, Inspectah Deck, Spliff Star, Young Dirty B******, and
more. It’s an amazing experience, because honestly, I didn’t even know about
the Wu-Tang Clan when I was little. My first introduction to Hip Hop was when I
was 8 years old. I remember listening to Outkast and their song Miss Jackson
and being like, “Wow, this is funky. This is fresh, because it’s a mix of singing
and rapping”. I also idolized Kid Rock once I turned around 12 or 13 (and still do
to this day).

My best friend, Brendan Riel, handles various day-to-day managing needs to
ensure I get tasks done. He also is my image consultant and helps with song
selection.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE MEAL

To be honest, I eat pretty clean. I love grilled chicken salads with raspberry
vinaigrette dressing. I also love pizza, but usually prefer making it myself from
scratch. It feels healthier to me that way without all of the grease. I eat like a
little kid actually. I love the little Perdue dinosaur shaped chicken nuggets. You
know, the ones seen in the movie Step Brothers. I do not, however, like “Fancy
Sauce”.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT YOUR PROFESSION?

I like how I am able to express myself through my voice. Performing on stage
and hitting high notes with soul is the ultimate high. There is nothing else quite
like it. The excitement and energy and emotion that a singer is able to put into
their performance. There are girls and boys who count down the days until they
get to see me perform. It is a surreal feeling, knowing that others look up to me
and that I bring happiness to their lives. It is all a truly humbling experience.
I grew up idolizing singers such as Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Neil
Diamond, Susan Tedeschi, and Kid Rock. I also am heavily influenced by Guy
Sebastian, Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake, and Janis Joplin. Obviously, I was
not even close to being born when Elvis passed away, but, to me, he is the
greatest performer ever to live. Same with Mike Jackson. I once had a fan of
mine come up to me after my show at the meet and greet and tell me that I saved
her life. That she was contemplating killing herself until she saw me perform and
fell in love with my music. it’s an experience that makes all of the anxiety from
this music biz worth it.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE LEAST?

I don’t like how nasty people in the music business can be. I have learned at a
young age exactly who is my friend and who is truly not a friend. Leaches hurt
me. People who I thought were my friends turned out to be just two-faced
leaches whom only wanted to use me and then threw me under the bus when I
wasn’t of any use to them any longer. I have been in and out of the spotlight
since I was around 14 years old, where I co-starred on the marine biology
children’s television show, Aqua Kids. It won a couple of Emmys, so that was
cool, but I struggled knowing who liked me for me and who just wanted to use
me. I am nice to everybody. I do not like people talking trash behind my back,
as I am a sensitive and caring kid. As Cappadonna says “They wasn’t checking
for Cap. Taking my kindness for weakness”.

Kang manages Cappadonna, so I have had some pretty deep and reflective
conversations with Cappa about how I get so hurt by those who use me and take
advantage of my kindness. Cappa has been a great support for me while I get
adjusted to being so heavily involved in the music biz.
It just sucks to find out that others will use you and steal from you or not pay you
back when you never did anything wrong to them. But I try not to give attention
to those leaches and unethical folks. I truly believe in karma, and those who
used me will think about it every day when I am living my dreams and spreading
positive vibes throughout the world.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DOING THIS?

I have been singing since I was 3 years old. I got my start in the industry by
performing with a professional Elvis Presley tribute artist named Rick Huntress.
Pammy, got me hooked on Elvis, and she took me to Rick’s
shows. Elvis will always be my favorite artist. I model my performing and stage
presence style after Elvis.

IF YOU COULD GO BACK IN TIME, WHAT WOULD YOU DO DIFFERENTLY?

I would go back and try and enjoy my high school years more. I was always
grinding hard and performing on the weekends or filming episodes for TV. I
wouldn’t take back any of the hard work I have put into my career. It is all worth
it. I just wish I had spent more time around kids during those years. Nah mean?
Being in the entertainment business as a kid you are always around adults.
Which I always liked I guess, but sometimes I wished I had been around more
kids and just be a kid. But as I said, performing is my ultimate high, and living my
dreams is even better.

WHO DO YOU HAVE NO RESPECT FOR?

I don’t have respect for those who say that they hate racism, yet they are
homophobic and use words like f**gg*t. How can you say you don’t like when
people hate on you for the color of your skin? As a industry we need to get rid of
racism and homophobia and just let the music bring on peace.

WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME?

I love working out. I took on bodybuilding after I got a herniated disc from playing
hockey. I played everywhere from division 1 in prep school to junior hockey in
the International Junior Hockey League. I was going to play in college, but
decided that music is where I wanted to put my focus.
I also love to spend time with family and my two dogs. My little sister,
Katherine, and I love to go on random adventures and see movies at the theater.
I also like clothes shopping and learning about fashion. I am a religious viewer of
WWE Raw. No matter what is going on, I always have to watch it every Monday.
I have gotten to perform at professional wrestling events with WWE superstars,
so it was pretty incredible. I also watch Law and Order SVU and The Fosters.

DO YOU DO ANY VOLUNTEER WORK?

I volunteer at various hockey camps coaching young kids. It is a rewarding
experience and a nice escape from all of the stress in life. I also build and
maintain websites for various local hockey camps and youth programs.

HOW HAS AMERICA CHANGED IN THE LAST TEN YEARS?

This is a somewhat hard question for me to answer, because I was so young 10
years ago. I feel like we have to be on guard more these days. All of these gun
crimes truly scare me. We need to find a solution. I believe Michael Jackson
was spot on when he said that all of today’s problems are because children are
stripped of their childhood innocence.

HOW HAVE YOU CHANGED?

I am still the same little kid deep down that is always happy and sensitive and
caring. With that said, I have toughened up as I enter my years as a young adult.
I am on my guard more. Nah mean? It sucks that I have had to learn at such a
young age how hurtful others can be, but it is also a blessing that I now know
what to look for.

WHAT'S THE SIDE OF YOU THAT THE PUBLIC NEVER SEES?

I can actually be a pretty quiet kid. It comes in spurts . I have ADHD, so I do get
random bursts of energy, but I am how I am. I am a sensitive and caring dude,
and I do have a heart of gold.

I used to suffer from a severe eating disorder, and it became the most torturous, mental illness to deal with ever. Music saved my life. It gave me hope. It still does. Music let me find an escape from the thoughts in my head. One day, I plan on opening up a boys’ eating disorder treatment facility.
I want to use my voice to let other boys know that they do not need to be afraid
to ask for help or be embarrassed by any means.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR FROM PEOPLE YOU DEAL WITH UP AND

COMING AND WHO YOU DEAL WITH REGURLARLY

The type of person I want on my team is one who lives a life with honesty and
respect for others. I want to be surrounded by a team that has fun, but when it
comes down to it, we are able to focus and get the job done. Having a creative
mind is also a must.

HOW HARD DO YOU PUSH YOURSELF?

I am always on my grind. I am working 24/7. I even take calls sometimes from
my team even if it is 3 AM. I hustle like P. Diddy. You got to. It’s the only way to
make it in this business. I love the quote, “Everybody wants to shine like DIDDY,
but no one wants to work like Puff”. I always am grinding and working non-stop,
but it is the only way to succeed and make history.

WHAT IS YOUR FINAL GOAL IN LIFE?

My final goal in life is to leave a forever-lasting mark in the entertainment
industry. I want generations from now to hear my voice, and like Elvis Presley,
have kids be like, “That’s Scott Isbell”. Mike Jackson’s music was created to
move people. I plan to do the same.

WHAT PUTS A S.M.I.L.E. ON YOUR FACE?

I always get so excited when I am hanging out with my best friends. To me, it
feels like being a little kid on Christmas morning. You see, my closest friends
don’t treat me like I am any different than I was when they first met me. They just
treat me like another kid. In life, I truly seek happiness.
It is honestly the simple things in life that put a smile on my face. I love going to
circuses, I love watching WWE, I like watching TV with my best friend. I am most
happy when I am doing what I love and am surrounded by the people I love and
cherish. I cherish my Isbellites. That is, my fans. I love you all, and thanks so
much for all of the support. Please check out my debut music video, Fall in Love
