So there I was with my ex whom I booty called on a cold Thursday night, watching some TV after having some boring a** sex -which is the reason I dumbed her- seeing a tv commercial about 50 Cent coming in Athens for a private concert. I'm like WTF, I want in! But I found out the only way to get into the concert was buying a new cellphone with a contract -which I couldn't afford. You see the concert was a promotion hosted by a cellphone company. So I updated my Facebook status asking "How can we get some tickets for Fifty's?" and soon I got a reply from a girl I'd never met saying she will get me in. So I called my old man saying I want two hundred bucks to blow on a trip for seeing G-Unit live. He half heartedly gave 'em to me and there I was, going on a 12-hour boat trip to Athens (I live in Crete, an island of south Greece).
After a few hours of sleep and some hours of public transport later, I arrived at Venue (the name of the club 50 performed at). The exterior of the club was jammed with people waiting to get in. Soon I met my Facebook friends who I'd never met before and they got me inside!
The place was packed. Wiggers (white boys trying to act ghetto) were everywhere to be found.
I soon left my new friends to find a spot close to the stage. As I was standing just a few feet away from the stage, Whoo Kid came out first and my heart started beating fast when I realised the idol of my teens (50) and his crew (Yayo, Banks) were about to come on stage! It was 7 or 8 years ago that I read an article about 50 Cent and his life that made me buy his album Get Rich Or Die Tryin'. Ever since I was hooked, to the point of getting a G-Unit tattoo on my (bonny) arm.
POW -to quote Whoo Kid- G-Unit jumped on stage and took this b**** over! Groupies of all ages were screaming their lungs out of excitement to watch performer of Candyshop (probably 50's most known track in Greece) and his associates live on stage. I spent the first seconds trying to realise that these are the guys I've watched as a loyal st...fan, I mean fan, on a myriad of music videos and press photos, live and kicking a few feet away.
I showed off my G-Unit tat to 50 who pointed at me with his finger and I pointed back. I was glad the guy I'd seen endless times on YouTube finally saw me. I spend the rest of the night putting my hands up as Yayo instructed.
POW (!!) 50 threw his skullhat and I grabbed it. I don't know if he threw it at me on purpose. Maybe he wanted to give it to a devoted fan. Maybe it was pure luck -nah. I immediately wore it, although I was a bit scared that someone might snatch it off my head and run away with it -LOL.
There was this MAD HOT black girl in front of me that would smile at me the whole time because I was shouting out the lyrics of the songs I knew like there was no tomorrow. So I was like "what the heck, I'll dance her up a bit." So I put my hands on her waist. After a few seconds she gently took them off and I look up to see her staring at Lloyd Banks and him staring back at her. So I'm like "whoops, trying to compete with Lloyd Banks here, that's way outta my f****** league" and let go of the b****. The eye-flirting between Banks and her went on for the rest of the show.
One and a half hour later the show was over and I ran outside in hopes of getting a photograph with 50 Cent and his boys. The tour staff were busy filling up their minibus with groupies, including the one that was eye-flirting with Banks earlier on. I found the gate of the club's backstage garage and asked the security guards to let me in for a photo which they denied. Soon after that, 2 tinded limos came out, with the first one carrying 50 in the backseat (if it was him). So I'm like D'OH, I lost my chance to get a picture. I walked a few feet down and saw the minibus was crammed to the bone with groupies with 2 more girls asking directions to the hotel. I explained to them where it was and I asked them if I could ride with them (they had a car) and they gladly accepted.
They were black (native Greeks, usually, come in white color) so I asked where they were from and they told me Ethiopia. They had 2 baby seats in the back but I assumed if they are trying to get laid with the group and it's workers they are probably single -right? Riight.
I asked if she knows who the daddy is (sarcasm) to which she replied "yes, of course, I'm married." *Ankward silence comes in for a sec* Then her friend added "we just like to have fun sometimes, that's all."
I'm like "fine by me, didn't see anything, won't tell anything" and we continued touring around Athens trying to find where the hotel was, King George Palace hotel specifically.
There it was, I think I saw Yayo outside talking with some guys I'm not familiar with and then he disappeared in the interiors of the hotel. The tour-worker-random-guy that invited the two girls to the hotel came up the car saying "no guys allowed - should I get him a cab?" -what a fuckhole. I said all I want is a photo with 50 and/or the Unit to which he replied "impossible."
We later chatted up Whoo Kid who I also asked if I could take a picture with 50 and he said that 50's already fast asleep. That's when I started realising that getting a photo with my favorite rapper was far from hapenning. I got out of the ladies' car and half heartedly took a cab back to my friends who were gonna give me a ride to the place I stayed in Athens. It was midnight. I actually heard that G-Unit & workers were gonna leave the hotel at 3 am to take a flight. So I thought maybe I can stay around and wait for 50 to exit the hotel and kindly ask him for a photo. But I said to myself "hey" stop acting like a stan and give the guy some space.
I went back home wearing 50s handskull which I took off and layed on my desk like it was some sort of sacred relic.
That was the day I saw my favorite rapper on stage for the first time.
