Groups Requesting BET Stop Playing Rihanna's "Man Down" Video Because It Shows Her Murder A Rapist

Rihanna's new music video for "Man Down" is getting criticized heavily for a scene that shows the singer shooting a man dead in cold blood.

In the video we see her pointing a pistol out of a window, before firing at a man walking in front of a large group of people. Killing him in retaliation for raping her.

"It's a 22, I call her Peggy Sue/ When she fits right down in my shoes/ What do you expect me to do/ If you're playing me for a fool/ I will lose my cool/ And reach for my fire arm/ I didn't mean to lay him down/ But it's too late to turn back now/ Don't know what I was thinking/ Now he's no longer living/ So I'm 'bout to leave town," she sings.

The video which premiered on BET on Tuesday has drawn the ire of several groups.

"If Chris Brown shot a woman in his new video and BET premiered it, the world would stop. Rihanna should not get a pass," said Paul Porter, co-founder of Industry Ears. He along with the Parents Television Council and the Enough is Enough campaign are calling on BET and its parent company Viacom to stop airing the video.

Melissa Henson of the Parents Television Council had this to say: "Instead of telling victims they should seek help, Rihanna released a music video that gives retaliation in the form of premeditated murder the imprimatur of acceptability."

Earlier today Rihanna, who was physically assaulted by then boyfriend Chris Brown two years, went on twitter to defend herself and the video.

"I'm a 23 year old rockstar with NO KIDS! What's up with everybody wantin me to be a parent? I'm just a girl, I can only be your/our voice!" she wrote. "Cuz we all know how difficult/embarrassing it is to communicate touchy subject matters to anyone especially our parents! And this is why! Cuz we turn the other cheek! U can't hide your kids from society,or they'll never learn how to adapt! This is the REAL WORLD!"

It's going to take a lot more than words on twitter to stop critics of the video like Porter, who said that in 30 years he's never seen "such a cold, calculated execution of murder in prime time."

Check out the video below and weigh in with your opinion.

For all who treat Tupac ,a convicted rapist I might add, like a prophet (Saggalee)and have a problem with this song are clowns. Tupac spewed some of the most violent and hateful bile and you people worship him. Why because every once in awhile he came out with a positive song it makes it OK. What fools you are. No matter how much I disliked some of his lyrics I would never advocate censoring him. Yet people talk about censoring her. I guess maybe women aren't equal.

@Alex Its not about monitoring your children its about guiding them. It's a shame. I refuse to believe that people can't teach their children what's real and what's imaginary. That you have to rely on society to mold our youths. That you can't tell your children that their actions should never reflect the actions of others. I feel sorry for the parents who can't serve as a guide or moral compass to steer there children on the right path. Who rely on BET and MTV to garner what there children wear how they act how they speak even how they feel. Who aren't competent enough to teach there children how to decipher the morally inadequate or the socially inept from the positively geared in life. Imagine if they really censored our music from the beginning of hip hop there might not have been a Biggie or Tupac Hell take it back to the slave days when communications and messages were sent through chants and cadences sung by those who were rebellious of their captors giving inspiration and heart to those who weren't free to rise and be defiant to break the shackles and be free. Blacks might still be slaves. You don't have to agree with the message any artist spews from there bowels I certainly don't but, I refuse to deny them there inalienable right to say what they want. If we took away that right away no MLK no Malcom no any other historic freedom advocate.

WOW what a powerful video!! I have a new found love for Rihanna and her song "Man Down" it's a great message. So many have been rapped mentally or physically and you may not even know ... only if one can shoot him down like Rihanna did literally or metaphorically. I love the BANG and how I became BANG!!

It's funny how everyone is speaking on this as a parent issue and not a society issue. Yes it's her right to say and feel however she choose as a person and an artist, but if we continue to feel like we have no responsibility to try and promote positivity, then things will continue to b f...ck up out here. Those who continue to say parents need to monitor thier kids and raise them, are the true idiots. If you think it's that simple and that society and tv, regardless of how much parenting you do don't have some type of influence on your child....You're the bad parent and nieve one! It was once said it takes a vilage to raise a child...! That's real talk! We've got this mentality now adays that as parents we have full control over what our kids think and influence by...! RIGHT!! and we can do it on our own...! kids are influenced everyday, some negative and some positive, that's the way we grow as people....Yoou can only hope your child take in the positive and learn from the negative! Get real people! BET will AX showing videos like Tip Drill (Nelly old video) and he's crucified for for it, because it's showing stripper (Reality Right) But it's ok and women power to see a woman shoot a man in the head point blank...WOW..! Yes he's a rapist and deserve to be punished, but by th law!! Lets be real BET will show any and all videos as long as it's not a strong group with power that will shut thier a** down with mass media protest (Like the Women group!) Real Talk!

I think a person that has been raped has most likely thought of shooting the one who did it.This isn't a new idea
