What is your name and what city do you rep?
I go by Aure' (Are-Ray), and my city is Houston, TX (H-Town)
What is unique about you and your music?
What makes my music unique is the inspiration that derives from timeless artist such as Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson. Each of these artists have accomplished major breakthroughs just with their music alone. For example, Stevie Wonder incorporated nature in his music and also as an artist that’s where I go to find my inspiration within myself. Its similar for Michael Jackson, he was able to become a voice for racial injustices that go on behind our political construct. Last but not least, Marvin Gaye. His approach to music is very sensual, charming and passionate. Whether you were in an argument, or just wanted please your mate. Marvin Gay was the man, his music made you feel good and in return you wanted to reciprocate that with your loved one. In today's music we miss those messages, that feeling, that deeper appreciation for melodic music that manifests into this reality.
The common denominator between these artists and myself is that we are able to command the attention of the audience by staying true to self, and not being afraid to place those passions into the music. Not only do I sing but I am very hands on with the writing aspects, music production, and the overall content that is exhibited.
Although I am inspired by a lot of artist my uniqueness simply comes from being true to self.
What shaped your music?
Taking the time to listen to myself, and watch how people respond to the music. When an artist can see influence on how impactful it can be to people’s lives, that is when you can begin to shape your abilities. I am a firm believer that knowing oneself is a special ability but knowing how your music and the messages presented can influence and create lasting experience I want people to know that my music creates a lasting experience. Timeless!
When did you realize you were going to make music?
I began in middle school when I took this surprise test in the 6th grade that required us to write out a song on a staff sheet. I didn’t care about music very much and I just wanted to finish this exam to pass the class. I was the last one to finish my test and during, I decided somewhere that I wanted to hear the notes that I was actually trying to get out. Not knowing, but I was placed into the highest chorale to be placed in that next year for writing out a similar score sheet from a composed piece by Beethoven. It was then at that moment when my passion for music began.
What type of music do you listen to?
I listen to everything, and when I mean everything I mean everything from music here in the states to South American, as well as music overseas. When you create in this way you are the music maker and the dreamer of dreams. Us musician’s are the universal language between God and mankind.
Who to you, is the most undervalued music artist?
There isn’t a particular artist that comes to mind, but I would like to hear more of artists from Jhene Aiko to Wizkid. I can really get into Wizkid because he brings genuine creativity from his perspective. I love Jhene Aiko because she is so mellow, but she makes you listen to her to hear her message. And it’s simply beautifully put. Both these artists present their message in unique way and are not afraid to express themselves by their own standards.
Who would you collab with out of any Artist or Producer?
I would definitely collab with artists like usher, and Neyo because they know how to finesse the music with their talents. Artists such as them are very rare but also the longevity within the music industry is a major plus. I think with working them, myself and also Wizkid, or even Jhene Aiko we could make legendary music.
What ignites your writing and creative juices?
My experiences and relationships. Being able to create music that creates not only a good feeling but a lasting impression. I have the opportunity as an artist to influence decisions, mend relationships etc. Knowing that I can use this influence for all things positive, or to tell a story keeps up my momentum. I truly believe in meeting eye to eye with all aspects of being creative. Its what makes great music and creates that balance between sound and words.
Success to you is…
Success to me is being able to do what you love that creates the ability to provide lifestyle behind how you live. I enjoy being able to create music and knowing that my talents create my lifestyle.
What do you wish you were told when you first started making music that you think would help an artist starting out?
I wish I was taught on what industry contacts to trust, the importance of streaming income through marketing, and how to effectively manage my own creativity to create a work-life balance.
Any upcoming projects or tracks you are a part of?
Yes, currently there is a mix-tape out title Only1Aure on CD baby with special guests on it from recording artists here in Houston, and we also have singles that we will be releasing, and also releasing an Ep that will be coming out soon. Not to mention, we are hitting the road with Gt Garza on his next up and coming tour, so be ready and looking out for that.
