Exclusive Artist to Watch Interview with Torenzo

What is your name and what city do you rep?

My name is Torenzo and I rep Dothan, Alabama. The 334.

What is unique about you and your music?

My drive to be successful. Not only in music but in everything that I do. I have a strong willingness to learn anything it takes to evolve into the best possible form of myself. My music alternates between uptempo hip hop and smooth R&B. Sometimes I may combine the two but I usually keep them separate.

What shaped your music?

Growing up I've always written poetry. I'd write poems and listen to music based on what I was feeling. When I wrote I usually listened to soul and R&B music such as Boyz II Men, Maxwell, Mary J. Blige and Jagged Edge to name a few. Around the age of 16, I began to take a strong interest into hip hop. Listening to musicians like J. Cole and Kanye, influenced me to try my own sound of music.

When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?

I was working as a Detailer for Mercedes Benz. One day I was just freestyling to an instrumental in my head and I said something that was really catchy. I kept repeating the hook then later that night I finished the verses. And I just kept wondering to myself, "I wonder how my voice would sound in a studio to this song". So I searched online for studios in my area and found a small studio company. I recorded a mixed version of my song, took it home, listened to it a few times then eventually decided to take a serious step towards being a musician.

What type of music do you listen to?

Mostly Hip Hop and R&B. But I listen to all genres. I feel good music and inspirations can come from any type of music.

Who, to you, is the most undervalued music artist?

It's a tough choice between August Alsina, Kelani and Pnb Rock. But since I have to choose one, I'd say Kelani. Her music speaks on an intriguing soulful level and she's always willing to help out with the community whenever possible.

Who would you collab with out of any Artist or Producer?

J. Cole or Kanye West on a collab track would be at the top of my list and a dream come true. Also Sonny Digital, Chris Brown, Kelani and PnB Rock would be on my wish list of collaborations as well.

What ignites your writing & creative juices?

Paying close attention to anything that I see or feel. If I see something that interests me, I like to write down that subject and sample out a few freestyles and instrumentals until I have a clear idea of how I want that song to sound.

What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?

I'm very passionate about learning, contributing, and stocks. When it comes learning, regardless of what it is, if I find it interesting I want to know more about it. I enjoy helping people. I believe in being grateful of another persons' success. Besides, it's basic humanity to grow as a whole. I plan on becoming an investor in the near future because I enjoy contributing to other companies. I'm also highly passionate about staying active. Whether it's basketball, football, ufc, tennis, running or working out, I enjoy being athletic.

Success to you is…

A bunch of little things done perfectly. Success is like a house of cards, if every little piece is placed and handled perfectly then your project will be at the best of its ability. Once that's complete then what's left to do is to build more onto that project or begin a new one and take what you've learn and build from there.

What do you wish you were told when you first started making music that you think would help an artist starting out?

Music is a business. Don't let "making a beat" or "writing lyrics" all you know how to do. Inform yourself on what's necessary around the music before you begin releasing projects.

Any upcoming projects or tracks you are apart of?

My debut mixtape will be available September 23th. My next project is projected to drop around February 2018

Where do we find your music / social media?

My music mainly can be found on iTunes, Spotify, SoundCloud, Apple Music, Google Play, Amazon Music, Pandora, 7digital, Napster, EMusic, MediaNet and My Website. As for social media, I can be found on Instagram and Snapchat @torenzoperry and on Twitter @Torenzo8
