Miami Dolphins WR Chad Johnson has brought us plenty of surprises during his career in the NFL, but one thing he had stayed away from was issues with the law.
That came to an end on Saturday night(Aug 11)when a dispute between him and his wife , Basketball Wives star Evelyn Lozado, escalated and led to Johnson allegedly headbutting her in the forehead.
According to the Sun-Sentinel, the newlyweds went out to dinner after Johnson had just participated in a Dolphins preseason game.
While returning home, Lozado confronted Johnson over a receipt for a box of condoms.
''An argument ensued'', Davie Police Department Capt. Dale Engle said.
"It gets pretty heated. By the time they get home here in Davie it's pretty heated. She alleges he leaned over and head butted her. He says she leaned towards him and that they butted heads. Needless to say she has a good laceration on her forehead."
When cops came on the scene, Lozada had lacerations on her forehead, and Johnson was arrested.
Lozada was treated on the scene by fire-rescue personnel. She was transported to Westside Regional Hospital.
Johnson remained in jail as of late Saturday night, and was likely to be transferred to Broward County Sheriff before midnight.
Engle said Johnson would not be released until he appears in front of a judge, which could be as late as Monday morning.
Once released on bail, Johnson will likely be issued a "stay away" order and he'll have to avoid contact with Lozada until the charges are resolved, which could take months.
Johnson and Lozada were married on July 4 and their wedding is supposed to be part of a VH1 reality series that begins in September called 'Eve & Ocho'.
A Dolphins spokesman said "we are aware of the situation and are in the process of gathering all the relevant information."Source
