Breakdown Of Gun Murders In U.S. African Americans & Whites Are Killed More Often By Different Types Of Weapons
The gun debate continues to rage on across America in the wake of mass shootings like the ones in Aurora, Colorado and Newtown, Connecticut.
The main focus is currently on assault rifles, but according to statistics gathered by Buzzfeed, Americans are far more likely to die by handguns.
89% of all gun murder victims in the U.S. are killed by handguns.
African Americans make up 57% of all gun murders, according to data from the 2010 FBI Uniform Crime Report.
60% of handgun murders are committed against blacks and 27% against whites.
Shotgun murders are the complete opposite according to statistics. 60% of shotgun murder victims are white and 30% black.
Rifles kill blacks and whites almost equally.
