Q: Where are you from ?
A: I grew up all over the place but I call Austin TX my spiritual home. It's a wonderful city for creativity and inspiration.
Q: When or how did you start knowing music was your calling?
A: I love the beautiful cliché "It was meant to be". In my case it's literally true. Even as a tiny child I was composing and singing. I've known this is what I was going to do with my life since I was about three years old, maybe earlier.
Q: Who are your idols, what kind of music do you listen to?
A: My idols would have to be Mozart, Michael Jackson, Prince, and Lady Gaga. Every single one of them has a sense of glamorous weirdness. I love that. I identify with it.
As far as what I listen to on a daily basis I like to tease people and say I like "trashcan punch" pop. Literally, I like the cheesiest top 40 girl pop. The cheesier the better in most cases. It makes me ridiculously happy. I know a lot of other artists will cite some very intellectual and innovative sources for their daily music read. But I would be pretentious if I didn't say that I just genuinely love good old fashion pop music.
Q: If you could choose any artist alive or dead to collaborate with who would it be and why?
A: Asking me to choose this is like asking me to pick a favorite kind of dessert. There are so many people that I would love to collaborate with. Lady Gaga is definitely near the top of the list. Fall Out Boy also, because I love their sound. Taylor Swift because I admire her song writing technique. So many others could make that list.
Q: How did you get your Artist name?
A: It's just a variation on my family name, truthfully. I needed something that would set a little bit of space between my personal life and my professional life, but also be a good fit for my personality. I was working with a producer in Austin Texas several years ago and we tried on all kinds of crazy names. In the end we whelmed up coming back to something that was very close to home already. And I think it's worked really well. I like the honesty of it. I also like that my first name means "airplane". That's just kind of cool.
Q: Top Five Dead or Alive?
1. Lady Gaga for sheer glitter power.
2. Michael Jackson for the amazing performances.
3. Prince for "most likely to be outrageously good at playing an instrument".
4. Taylor Swift for best way to handle heartbreaks.
5. Whitney Houston for that legendary voice.
Q: What are some of your other hobbies, what do you like to do when you're not working on your music?
A: I eat cupcakes a lot. Teach my cat to talk. Study languages: a hobby I have no talent at all for but still love. I also love mystery novels, Agatha Christie being a particular favorite. Lately I've also been getting to decorate my home and discovered I can have such things as walls and carpet covered in glitter. It's amazing!
Q: How do you balance your music with other life obligations?
A: I don't. I hate to say it but it's true. Balance is not something I do well. Once every six months or so somebody will pull me aside and read me the riot act for disappearing a little too deep into the underland of music writing. I live in my head a lot and sometimes people have to yell at me me a bit to get me to come out.
Q: What do you hope to accomplish with your music?
A: I just want to be there for people. My main aspiration has always been to be present musically, through my songs on my words, to comfort the brokenhearted, inspire the dreamers, and provide the perfect background track for a prom-posal. I don't think there's any greater compliment that someone can pay you then to choose to have your music on for their special life event.
Q: Any upcoming projects we should look out for in the near future ?
A: Yes there are! My new single #INNOCENT is coming out on August 4, 2017. It's going to be on Apple Music, Spotify, and just about everywhere else you can imagine. You should definitely follow my work on whatever music service you use so you can enjoy it with me.
