OG to the Alberta hip hop scene, Arlo Maverick is not only a spitter of his soul, but the ultimate story teller. Touching on topics like absent fathers, break ups and the consequences of chasing your dreams, Arlo Maverick will leave you all in your feelings from the first listen.
Originally a member of the group Politic Live, Arlo Maverick went solo in 2012 after a member of his group decided to step aside from music to pursue his family life. Arlo Maverick’s sound is really versatile. It’s hard to tell what genres are going to grace the next track as he switches from electronic influenced, to a rock influenced style to a neo-soul inspired sound to a gospel sample.
His versatility is just one layer to his genius tracks though, his lyrics bring an aspect of transparency that is inexplicable. He has a way with words that most rappers cannot even fathom. There’s a certain vulnerability to his music that will captivate the listener to complete the album in its entirety because it’s urgent that you know how his story ends. The cherry on his musical sundae are the features he selects for his tracks.
Recently Arlo Maverick accompanied his colleagues in the Edmonton rap game K-Riz and Oozeela (who also happen to have multiple features on his 2016 album “Maybe Tomorrow”) to South Korea to perform in the Zandari Festa which is South Korea’s largest musical showcase. Catch their adventures on his YouTube vlog series and give him a listen on Spotify and SoundCloud. Trust me, you won’t regret it.
