"In the United States, Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain. Congress approved the wording of the Declaration on July 4 and then sent it to the printer. Whether John Hancock, as the elected President of the Second Continental Congress, or anyone else signed the document that day is unknown, because that document has been lost — presumably destroyed in the printing process. Hancock's name and that of a witness do appear on the typeset broadside that was published within a few days. On August 2 in the following month, an engrossed document in script form was signed by Hancock and other delegates.
Independence Day is commonly associated with fireworks, parades, barbecues, carnivals, picnics, baseball games, and various other public and private events celebrating the history, government, and traditions of the United States, but is often also viewed as simply a summer festival, apart from its patriotic overtones." OMG Jesus Christ!!! Our country is about to have the first African- American president and you want to sit around and talk about "white" America. If the people that sit around and find excuses to be "seperate" would use that same amount of energy doing something positive and trying to unite we as a people would be so much better. Find a hobbie other than sitting around trying to cause controversy over every single thing in America. Jesus we are all paying 4+ dollars a gallon for gas, we are all paying premium prices for food and shelter, we of all races have homeless people in the shelters, we all have family in the porjects, we all struggle daily in this country and while I agree the police in this country is racially predjudice please stop the bafoonery of classing everyone up since you yourself don't want to be classed up!

uck the 4th really on july 4th 1776 we as black people was still slaves!! and to make it even more f***** up one of us was the first to die in the revolutionary war( benjamin bannaker)!! we've fought bleed and died in every war this country have pataken in ,but have'nt enjoyed equal citizenship to this date(profiling,red lining,gentrafication,education etc.) but on july forth 1930 god came to us (black people in america) in the person of master fard muhammad!!!! learn about him family myspace.com/marlonxgod

Is the 4th of July truly for all Americans? I ask this question because while "white" america is claiming to be free us african-american people sure wasnt free, so the question is should we celebrate when they do, or have our own special day like Cinco de Mayo?
