SPIDER LOC from The West Coast
He's been making noise on the West Coast for some time and as one of the best new artists to have signed in recent years to the mighty G Unit Records; Spider Loc is making serious moves. A string of string underground releases features on various G-unit mixtapes, as well as being on the massive 50Cent 'Get Rich Or Die Trying Soundtrack' has made this emcee something quite special. The West Coast does really have a new star. Tricksta got 5 minutes with him amongst a busy schedule to find out the latest from G-UNIT's Spider Loc.
Whattup Spider, hope you cool. U good?
Every thing gravy man, how about you?
Yeh man, I'm busy as always man! Just wanna say thanks for doing us the drops. Gonna be a good look getting the Spider Loc mixtape out over here.
I appreciate it man. Thanks for the support.
So tell the people who might have been sleeping on ya a little about how you got in the game.
I got in the rap game by just grinding man. I didn't really have no manager or nothing like that. I didn't have no system in place to get no deal plan.
You from the West Coast right?
Yeh, Los Angeles. La La Land!
What's it like living there?
Urm, LA is like, well you got to remember its real close to Hollywood, so it comes to entertainment there's stars everywhere. It's hard to be a star in LA, being a rapper aint a big thing. There are stars everywhere
So you signed with G-Unit then now. When did all that happen?
It was 2005 when I signed. It was about four months after Young Buck invited me to a 50Cent video shot to his track 'Shorty Wanna Ride'. While I was there I just dropped a rap and it went from there really. I signed up and now I'm part of the Unit. G-Unit all day.
So what's the immediate plan?
Its all about the album 'The Worldwide Web'. I'm working on that now and that's gonna out in the streets real soon. The album gonna be a certified classic, no doubt.
Yeh the whole G Unit camp are on there, plus I got a couple of outside guests, but I don't wanna tell ya too much. Just be on the lookout for the album 'The Worldwide Web'… keep checking www.spiderloc.com and www.myspace.com/spiderloc for the latest information on release dates and sh*t.
So you still working hard on your mixtape grind?
Hell yeh, there's plenty out there to get man. I'm getting a lot of support from street DJ's, radio DJ's are something different, but street DJ's all show me love. There's lots of CD's out there to cop man, 'Brainless: The Prequel', 'Bangadoshish Volumes 1 & 2', The mix I did with Whoo Kid 'G-Unit Radio 18 - Rags 2 Riches', also my boy DJ Felli the 'Connected' joint, 'Parole' and 'The West Kept Secret : The Prequel'. Plus I got this new mixtape y'all doing for me. Yeh we looking forward to dropping the LATE & TRICKSTA present Spider Loc 'Straight Up Rider' mixtape over here in Europe man. Yeh that's gonna be the sh*t man. I'mma hit you off with some real fire for that trust me!!! Europe best know that Spider Loc be coming.
So on a level man, you collaborated with 50Cent and obviously have a business relationship with 50. What's he like as a person?
He's special man. He is a good person to be around and as an emcee he has helped to make me grow. I appreciate what he's done for me and we have a tight working relationship.
So outside of the Unit is there anybody you feeling?
Urm…. Nahhhhhh… G-Unit got the best artists hands down. No question.
Urm, if ya bump into Keysha Cole tell her I'm looking for her. I wanna do something with her!
Fair enough! Okay let's talk videos. What ya got cooking?
