2015 Marked The 1st Time In History That Albums 18 Years Or Older Outsold New Releases

(Thump2015 marked the first time in history that current music releases were outsold by "catalogue album sales"—a term that refers to any release that is at least 18 months old. To put this in context, just ten years ago current music sales outpaced catalogue music by over 150 million albums.

That information, reported by Music Business Worldwide, comes from a year-end report by Nielsen, the data company most famous for their SoundScan music-sales statistics that inform the Billboard charts. However, this data pertains solely to albums—either physical or digital—and does not include streaming. So, whether the Nielsen report shows a real declining sales trend for new artists, or merely that we've shifted away from albums entirely (the argument that young people are more inclined to stream rather than purchase music seems plausible), is shocking, though perhaps not entirely unexpected.

@Rexgdub - C'MON SON. You must be too young to remember how the south made it on "TOP" or you don't listen to the music for real. Southern artists had as much to say as anyone else and the music was dope. Things started to shift aka "turn s*****", when the money aka "old Jewish men", started pushing the garbage aka "party music", to the front. Even New York's identity in the industry changed for a pay check. I'd say right around 2004 is where it all fell apart.

That's because this new s*** is garbage and their fans are leeches that want everything for free.

This is the result of the south beiong on "TOP", Music so horrible it destroyed rap city, trl, mtv raps, music sales etc... The south is horrible and the only people who keep them there are wealthy white men WHY? Ill give you the answer, Its because the powers don't want you to think. The south is given this plateau the artist didn't earn the spot (hcs.ence the lyrics lol) Don't believe the hype about the south is on top its polotics.

The names of the albums sold is irrelevant. Point is people would rather listen to old s*** than the garbage that's out today.
