Comment by SMP on February 12, 2013 at 9:53am: Yeah JR, but at least Erykah Badu and John Legend don't cater to those really POP POP listeners, they have their own lane so to speak, I wouldn't consider them Pop so those wins were legit/acceptable. But yeah, you're right, it's obvious though, if you keep it Hip-Hop, you ain't gonna win Grammy as your not sissyfied enough to be Pop for them punk a-ss kids. Nas should have won, everyone that knows Rap knows that. The Roots were my 2nd choice judging by the nominations.

Comment by J R on February 12, 2013 at 9:41am: SMP and Gottalovetheinternet: I just realized that there was no actual hip-hop performance at the Grammys, only collaborations mixed with pop, r&b, or rock. Hip-hop artists that have had no pop influences to win a Grammy is rare. The Roots have won four Grammies but three stem from their collaboration album with John Legend which would be more R&B and the other was for Best Rap Performance by a duo or group for their song with Erykah Badu called "You Got Me" from 1999. Fast forward to this year's Grammy Awards, they lose to Drake smh. I was pulling for Nas or The Roots to win. Both of their albums were great. I would've been fine with Lupe Fiasco winning even though his album nominated wasn't his best.
