Leaders of the Ethio-Africa Diaspora Union Millennium Council (aka Rastafari Millennium Council) have sent a 7-page demand letter to Snoop.Dogg.
The group wants the rapper to pay them "financial and moral support" they claim he committed, issue a public apology and stop using the name "Lion" according to TMZ.
In the documents they claim to have made it clear to Snoop that "smoking weed and loving Bob Marley and reggae music is not what defines the Rastafari Indigenous Culture!"
The group says they will sue Snoop if he does not agree to their demands.
Bunny Wailer
Bunny Wailer, an original member of Bob Marley and the Wailers is also upset with The Doggfather.
Wailer claims Snoop has engaged in "outright fraudulent use of Rastafari Community's personalities and symbolism." He says Snoop failed to meet "contractual, moral and verbal commitments" in regards to his documentary "Reincarnated."
Snoop traveled to Jamaica last year to record his first reggae album, also titled "Reincarnated." The documentary details the Long Beach rapper's journey as he is "embraced by the Jamaican people, is positively impacted by Rastafarian culture, and becomes reincarnated as Snoop Lion," according to the documentary trailer.
Snoop issued a statement last July, describing the name change as a spiritual awakening. "I wanted to bury Snoop Dogg and become Snoop Lion, but I didn't know that until I went to the temple and received the name Snoop Lion from the Nyabingi priest,” said Snoop. “From that moment on, I started to understand why I was there and was able to create something magical in this ['Reincarnated'] project ... something I haven't done before in my career.”
