Singer Montell Jordan Owes The IRS Nearly $630,000 In Unpaid Taxes

This is not how we are supposed to do it.

Montell Jordan scored a huge hit with "This Is How We Do It" in 1995, unfortunately he failed to pay Uncle Sam from 1999-2001 leaving him with a huge tax debt.

TMZ is reporting that the singer owes the IRS $627,987.06.

The government filed a tax lien against his property in 2004. Since he didn't pay up the lien against his property was re-filed last month. If he doesn't come up with the money the government can go after his property in court.

relax people. it's not that serious. I have fought the IRS a couple of times. It's an easy fix. The IRS releases this data to win the battle in the court of public opinion. here's how it works....first Montell Jordan has an attorney or two working on this. the attorney gets a settlement lined up with the IRS and then tells Jordan that he has "X" amount of time to settle up. Now, that was likely before the real estate values plummeted. Now, Jordan's assets have gone down in value and he is still faced with letting it go. All of a sudden that doesn't seem like a bad idea since the property value has fallen. Yet, he still has to settle the balance. That is why this delay has come up in most cases. The lawyers have to go back and try for another lower dollar amount settlement. It's just paperwork shuffling right now. I would be willing to bet that if Jordan onw 1/2 of the publishing on the single "this is how we do it" that he's still grossing 7 figures annually. I was recently in Prague and they played that in a club. It's still in rotation on sirius/xm as well. Montell will be just fine. He'll settle with the IRS and he'll do some shows in the west and make a few bucks.

I just read an article that said 30 corporations paid no taxes at all. And it's legal. The whole thing is a joke. They do seem to be going after a lot of rappers though....they must have all had bad people giving them bad advise, or stealing from them.
