Kony 2012: The Race To Stop Ugandan L.R.A. Leader Joseph Kony From Forcing Children Into His Army, Sexual Slavery, Mutilation & Even The Murder Of Their Own Parents [Video]

Grisly killings, abductions, and rapes allegedly committed by the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) in central Africa have garnered international attention following the release of a video highlighting abuses committed by the group and its leader, Joseph Kony.

The half-hour film (below) produced by Invisible Children follows a former child soldier named Jacob. The film issues a call for action, reportedly aiming to raise awareness by making Joseph Kony a household name. While the organization describes itself as a movement seeking to end the conflict in Uganda, some have criticized the group's spending practices and the film's approach as overly simplistic.

However, the LRA is allegedly responsible for a host of abuses, including the murder, rape, and abduction of tens of thousands in the past two decades. The Associated Press reports:

Kony, whose army abducts children and takes women as sex slaves, has been indicted by the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity committed during a decades-long insurgency against Uganda's government. The group has been blamed for the murder of thousands of civilians in four countries, and the U.S. classifies it as a terrorist organization.

Myths surround the LRA's leader, Joseph Kony, who enjoys a cult-like respect. Kony calls himself a "freedom fighter," although it is unclear why he is fighting.

Last October, President Obama announced that 100 US troops would be dispatched to central Africa as advisers to those fighting against the LRA. The LRA is reportedly fractured and weakened, however its leader Joseph Kony remains at large.

A Twitter campaign targeting celebrities and influential figures took off last night using the hashtag #STOPKONY. Below, see a few of the reactions:

Started watching this Kony vid, stopped watching it at 9 minutes : 17 seconds. WAY too self promoting, WAY too self grandizing, this guys out to launch his directing career and sons acting career.
The Continent of Alkebulan MUST find it's own leaders without outside influence. Regardless of what you call brutality, leadership from a Kony is what creates civilizations. Look through out history. Feel free to name ONE of historys leaders who haven't been even more brutal to create the USA, Briton, France etc..
Until he drops 2 atom bombs on another nation. The people of that Uganda most create their own path without influence. Interference could prevent their true leader from rising.

@KOA...you're right. That region of Africa has had terrible human rights issues since Amin ran the show 40 years ago. Nothing will change. the notoriety won't cause american's to do anything. This country is on the verge of 10 dollar/gallon gas prices if the syria/iran/isreal issue isn't resolved.

this has been happening for decades in uganda, somalia, liberia, rwanda. .
Kony doesn't care how many people are on facebook clicking buttons. If you arrest him there will another psycho n.igger ready to take his place.
Look at Joshua Bilal. he recruited children soliders, he raped, murdered, and cannibalized hundreds of people and in court he was let go totally free.

Do youre resaerch before supporting this after watching a youtube video come on people daaaamn are you stupid. For example:Invisible Children has been condemned time and time again. As a registered not-for-profit, its finances are public. Last year, the organization spent $8,676,614. Only 32% went to direct services And as a comment says under me: Konyo havnt even been to Uganda since 2006. His active in other countries in africa but not in uganda. Im not saying we should like him, not at all. But his far from the only who been doing this in africa so stop this trend bandwagon plz, just cause its on youtube or something, you just wanna look goood on facebook or whats the reason?
