Wiz Khalifa Loses No. 8 Spot To Big Sean. Claims 9th Slot On MTV's Hottest MC's In The Game List [Video]

Wiz Khalifa stays high, so as expectations for his debut album, Rolling Papers, shot through the roof, the Pittsburgh rapper made good by delivering a gold-selling LP last March — with multiple hit singles to back it. That success and more was enough to take him from MTV's 2010 Hottest Breakthrough MC to the Hottest MCs in the Game VII list.

Not only did the Taylor Gang general snag the #2 spot on the Billboard 200 in his first week out — behind Britney Spears — he also dropped a collaborative album with Snoop Dogg (Mac & Devin Go to High School), blessed fans with the Cabin Fever mixtape, and sold out shows around the world on his Rolling Papers Tour. When it was all said and done, the Kush and Orange Juice spitter clocked in a reported $11 million and snagged the #11 spot on Forbes' Hip-Hop's Top Earners list.

"First of all, he won the Hottest Breakthrough MC and really fulfilled the promise that we all knew that he had," MTV News Senior hip-hop Writer Rob Markman said. "To be this young and have this many accomplishments, almost three albums in a year, you gotta give it up to dude."

The criteria to be considered a Hottest MC are based on a combination of factors: impact, buzz, sales, lyrics, swag and the intangibles. The Taylor Gang captain meets all of them. His impact was huge, just look at the way veteran artists like Snoop and Juicy J lined up to collaborate with the youngster. Wiz's buzz kept him a part of the overall 2011 hip-hop conversation and he notched impressive sales numbers. Khalifa also has a strong sense of style, as seen in his New York Times style magazine feature last September. And his relationship with Amber Rose kept him in the tabloids, adding an intangible element to his growing celebrity.

After each member of MTV's Hip-Hop Brain Trust submitted their personal Hottest MCs lists, Wiz landed the #8 spot. But then things took an interesting turn. After a heated roundtable debate and subsequent vote, Khalifa was bumped to #9 and G.O.O.D. Music upstart Big Sean snatched the #8 slot. The argument was fiery, and though most of the panelists agreed that Wiz's success was remarkable, some contended that Rolling Papers was a critical disappointment and Khalifa had lost some steam in the past few months.

"It's a good album, but I think with the momentum and expectations, it didn't live up to the hype," said Yomi Desalu, MTV's senior director of music and talent programming strategy.

"But I just feel like I want him up there because of the full year, of the full stride, of the Rolling Papers Tour, of what he [accomplished]," Rebecca Thomas, an MTV News editor and writer, argued.

If Wiz's final position on the "Hottest MCs in the Game" list is debatable, his impact on hip-hop over the past year is irrefutable. With a bunch of accolades already under his belt, Khalifa has nowhere to go but up!

Maurice you are def sold into what you listen to but you have no clue what your talking about. Don't try to sell us so hard, we aren't hearin it! 50 focused on movies and other biz ventures which is fine by me, but when he drops the hottest tape of the year, I'm bumpin it. And as far as the beef, I haven't heard one officer rickeeeeeey song since I learned I was listen to str8 BS!!! Banks dropped heaters for most of the year. You just turn your radio on and I'll listen to that hard body music. Sucks there's so many fakes out there like you listenin to that fake @ss music and only a hater like you can come up with feeding a billion children as a negative thing by saying how they gonna eat after!!!!! I'm just glad I got rappers on my list making music so I have something to listen too cause I'm not feeling to many more in the game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As far as the 50 vs ross beef....there weren't any losers in that match. you ask how? 1. ross is STILL popping in the streets, clubs, and even ivy league ppl saying that "ahuh". 50 still rich as fu ck despite the fact that is rap career is probably dead. but dude bugging with that 50 feeding the billion kids in africa thing. its a good thing and all, but 50 using that to stay relevant too. and how are these billion kids gonna eat? for the rest of their childhood and adolescene yrs? 50 should have never taken his eyes off the rap game and got distracted trying to do too much.

nig gas talking bout banks should be on there. i was really hoping that banks would really do his thang, but the reality is he had two bangers (really just one on a nat'l level) and he is STILL rapping those two joints for the high points during his shows....meaning his buzz has pretty much died outside of NY

ppl talk about summer jam like its the 90s. dude summer jam is only popping for NYC, Phila, and Jersey. The rest of the country could give a fu ck about that NY s*** real talk. the only n***** from that area that really matter is jay, fab, maybe fif (we'll see this year), and maybe asap (we'll see this yr for him as well). NY n***** are lame for acting like this is the early 2ks and b4 when the whole world was rocking with them. but every since about 05 the rest of the world been fu ckin with the south. and that's on

impact, buzz, sales, lyrics, swag, and intangibles....with that said some of our FAVORITE lyricists/rappers/mc's/artists/ whatever are NOT going to be up there...y? because they don't have a dominance in every category! u don't have to be 1 in every category but u have to be at least at 80% in each. THE ONLY THING THAT ISNT DEBATABLE are sales. Wiz buzz definitely dropped(musically) by the end of the year
