50 Cent Travels To Somalia To Help Feed The Poor [Pics Inside]

The WFP reports:

Jackson flew yesterday to Dolow in Somalia’s southern border region, where thousands of women and children have taken refuge at Kabasa camp for displaced people fleeing from drought and conflict. He saw women and children being screened for malnutrition, and visited a nearby school.

"What I am seeing is devastating -- these women and children have risked everything to come to this Somalia camp, just to get food,” he said. “They need our help.”

Jackson today visited a school in a Nairobi slum where he met children, many of them orphans.

“To meet those kids was so inspiring, they have nothing, yet they are so positive and optimistic. I want to do my part so they get food and an education. I hope more people will join me to help end this devastating situation," he said.

In September, Jackson made a public commitment to provide one billion meals for the hungry. As part of his fundraising drive, he is donating to WFP money from the sales of a new energy drink, called Street King. For every unit sold, he has pledged to donate 10 U.S. cents, which covers the typical cost of food in a WFP meal.

WFP provides nourishing meals and snacks to improve concentration in the classroom and to encourage families to enrol and keep their children in school.

The average joe buys energy shots...the average joe doesnt donate to non profit organizations. I think its brilliant. He has gotten people who dont gi ve a f*** about themselves more less pthers to kick in and feed these children. How long has worldwide hunger been an issue? Too long and 50 is savin the day....and building an empire. What wpuld you expect from an entrepunethical person like Curtis Jackson! The man is makeing a difference...period.

porshe911- 500, that's the number of hours I volunteered in a little over a year to earn a $1,500 scholarship through my university. Of course I don't expect you to believe that, so I don't know why you asked. *stupid question* Drayton Jackson-$995,718 is the amount the CEO of American Red Cross was compensated in 2010. I wouldn't expect you to have up-to-date facts when you're pulling the information from Wikipedia. FYI-Not exactly the way you go about receiving credible information. Anyhow, one thing I learned while minoring in non-profit management, is that some charities do a horrible job regarding efficiency. The other thing is coming up with the worst-case scenarios, as far as non-profits go is just plain stupid. You can do a quick google search and find that their are MANY charitable organizations that regularly receive 4 and 5 star ratings regarding efficiency. Last, I will find it hard to believe that Mr. Cent isn't pulling in considerably more than the salaries you mis-quoted in your comment.

Always keep in mind Charities in America is a biznes first and when a dud like 5th dose it, even if its to make some profit , it would never be at the profit level and loop holes of some of this counties biggest charities.

I realize di&^&*ck heads like DX253 have travel but are not very learned. What you need to do is look at red Cross first were only 10% of funding goes to help and the rest to a CEO that makes over 250K salary. O WAIT I CANT HERE YOU” ya you need for more reading and research and stop all that training.
70% of the $1.2 Billion donated to Katrina-related donations went to the Red Cross, yet the Red Cross is fully reimbursed by the government for any shelters or emergency services they provide.
The organization makes a total of about $3 billion annually, about half of which is from selling donated blood. Some of this surplus money ends up in disaster relief, but it seems that much does not. Last year alone, the Red Cross spent $111 million in fund raising, and their CEO Marsha Evans made just under $652,000. It seems the the main value they offer is the free help of their volunteer force.
The president of the United Way is now Ralph Dickerson Jr. who's current salary is $420,000 per year, according to the Chronicle of Philanthropy.
UNICEF C.E.O. and President Caryl M. Stern earned $478,645 in 2009 according to a Better Business Bureau report. The Better Business Bureau also said that Brian Gallagher, CEO of The United Way earns $1,037,410 in 2008.
