50 Cent Explains What Separates Him From Lady Gaga, Eminem [Video Inside]

MTV reportS:

50 Cent knows what it takes to make a hit record. The first step for him is the groundwork, usually in the form of a street single. Before "In Da Club," the G-Unit General set the streets on fire with "Wanksta," and before he took fans to the candy shop in 2005, Fif started off with "Disco Inferno."

For his fifth, yet-untitled LP — which he tweeted will now come out in November — things are no different. After blasting his label on Twitter last week, 50 decided to heat up the streets by dropping "Outlaw," his new Cardiak-produced street single.

When asked how his tried-and-true formula differs from that of Interscope labelmate Lady Gaga, Fif said their respective circumstances are incomparable.

"When you say Lady Gaga, a pop artist, they want them to just deliver a song," 50 said. "They don't have the mixshow radio platform to go through before they would actually go for adds on an actual record."
As opposed to mainstream pop artists, rappers who are viewed as more niche, for the most part, usually have to service a record that caters to late-night urban-radio formats where DJs blend records together in a continuous stream. The mixshows serve as a proving ground of sorts for edgier hip-hop music.

"Her records go to top 40 and crossover radio immediately. You can't really compare it to any artist that would be considered a pop artist or a white artist," 50 said of his circumstance in relation to Gaga's. "And I say that openly, because what we consider urban radio or rhythmic radio was referred to as black radio at one point. That right there is something that I am conscious of."

Still, 50 said he doesn't place any blame; instead, he simply points out the differences. He even talked about his method of landing records on the charts in relation to Eminem. Like Gaga, 50 points out that Slim Shady bypasses urban radio as well.

"You can't compare Eminem and 50 Cent's career on any level," he said. "Eminem doesn't know what the inside of Hot 97 looks like. He's never even had to go there. So the top 40 and crossover-radio platforms are detrimental to the success of an Eminem project, and for me to get to the top 40 or crossover space, I have to have music that performs so well on your Hot 97s and Power 106s of the world until it actually goes up to that point."

Last Thursday, before leaking "Outlaw," 50 tweeted that he wouldn't drop his new album in 2011 unless Interscope got "on the same page." 50 clarified to MTV News what many perceived as a serious rift between him and his label. "They're behind it, but to get everybody moving at the same beat and moving at the same pace is the object. That was what the goal was even writing that statement and releasing the song," he said.

dude does seem to have a lot of "explanations" & excuses ..I remember him saying it was easier for Jadakiss because Kiss aims locally while he (50) has to make music that appeals internationally. Then it was his music was leaked. Now it's a black/ white thing. I guess he knows more about the industry & how things work than I do ..but I would say this s*** is starting to sound lame ..but it's BEEN sounding lame. Guess we gotta quote Jay Z: men lie, women lie, NUMBERS DON'T!!

Y'all are some dumb m************, if your thinking of becoming successful in the hip hop game, the guy jus gave you some gold - read between the lines! All this "50 should do this, 50 should do that" ain't one of you ever had a hit record or made over 5 figures in a year so your advice is negligible, he's better off getting dog care advice from Mike Vick.

50 doesnt need to make excuses to Hip Hop...Hip Hop needs to make excuses to 50...if this was 1987, Hip Hop would be delivered in Fruit Loops boxes...it's disgusting what the music has come to...in a year's time even Jay Z wont fit in anymore...it's pure garbage...Country music realler then hip hop

DOWN ON ME is all over the radio. 50 works hard on his flow. I don't know how he did it, and that Nichole joint that's moving up the charts. 50 really working out the box on those two hits.

Bottom line though, it goes back to BFSD. People hated 50 before that record came out.
Being in the public eye so much with music, people want him to fail. That's why Ross did so well.
Same backlash thing is beginning to happen with Wayne now. Drake, Nicki, Young Money all did real well. Reminds of G-Unit back in the day.
Wayne's super over exposed, so it will interesting how well his next record does.
Same with 50.
Both 50 and Wayne are going to need big major hits to win over the fans: crossover or not.
50's career is built on big hits. "AYO' was his last real big hit off Curtis.
He should be putting out two records a year. A heavy promoted 'Hit' one, and latter a less promoted 'Hard' one.
Cover both bases. Maybe an experimental. Like that 'Bullsh*t and Party' track.

Fif you lost your swagga! its ok just get with the program, listen to the radio station and hear whats hot. Do club songs, do booty shaking songs and no talking about shooting somebody, people know you're too rich to do it at least not the way you say it in your songs. Next, make peace with the south, all the year of dissing them. "I'm bigger than all of them put together" yeah! I heard you say that on BET, people in the south love you but we hate your gut. Put the following artists on your album: Slim Thug, Bun B, PitBull, Rick Ross, Busta and you got a hit. Oh! and Kanye with Chris Brown. If you flop this time, I am no longer a fan, 3 flops and you are done. Stick to acting, no more excuses Curtis, all your talk is just a way to make excuses in case your album goes copper. NO more f****** gun talk lyrics!
