Bloomberg is touching upon one of those big questions that we're ALL asking, quite honestly:
When will the PlayStation 3 be cheaper?!
According to the article, the company is facing increasing pressure to trim the price for the 80GB console from $399. That price currently sits $150 above the Nintendo Wii and $200 above the cheapest Xbox 360.
Championing this price cut in a recession heavy time is
Peter Moore, head of EA Sports. Moore says that Sony "has a ways to go with their pricing." Alex Evans, producer of PS3 exclusive,
LittleBigPlanet, echoed similar sentiments regarding the PS3.
Here are some of those thoughts expressed in a recent interview with
Gamasutra:
"
They've had all these, you know, SingStars and the EyeToy games. They've had their casual gaming audience on the PS2, and they have to translate that over to PS3 now. As they do that, I'll be very happy with that, because that's how I see PS3 growing. That's why I'm kind of comfortable with it for now... As soon as they drop their price, ho ho ho. (laughs) I shouldn't say that, but it's true. I mean, you know..."
A representative from Sony tells Bloomberg the company has no immediate plans to reduce prices. If the prices DO get cut for the PS3, is it worth it to buy it amongst staunch competition like the Wii or Xbox 360?
