In 1997 Platinum artist Busta Rhymes along with Flipmode Squad member, Rampage, visited Queens Bridge housing projects to shoot a video directed by one of the largest music video directors, Benny Boom. In the midst of Busta Rhymes forming the group Flipmode Squad director Benny Boom was quite familiar with the Killa Kids success and spotted Baby Sham the highlight of the Kids past at the shoot and invited him in the studio to spit for Busta live. Sham had no idea that this would win him an opportunity to sign his first deal to set off his career. He later on became one of the members of the Flipmode Squad and signed to Flipmode Entertainment in the year of 1997, which was runned by Chris Lighty of Violator Management and Busta Rhymes.
Baby Sham’s first featured assignment was on Busta Rhymes 1997 Elektra Ent. platinum selling album “When Distaster Strikes” followed by Busta’s “ELE” release in 1998 platinum selling album then came the 1998 gold Flipmode Squad album “The Imperial”.
Baby Sham also began to feature on soundtracks such as the 1998 motion picture “Slam” directed by Marc Levin, “Why Do Fools Fall in Love” starring Halle Berry, Vivica Fox and Larenz Tate, “Dr. Dolittle 2” in 2001 starring Eddie Murphy and “Friday After Next” in 2002 starring Ice Cube and Michael Epps just to name a few.
In 2004 Baby Sham was honored 2 ASCAP Rhythm and Soul Awards for best r&b/hip hop and rap song for the song “I Know What you Want” featuring Mariah Carey and he was also awarded a pop award by ASCAP for the best pop song.
In 1999 Baby Sham was honored with a Source Award for new artist of the year group Flipmode Squad.
Baby Sham is currently working on his new LP and continuously performing in local venues throughout the state.
Born and raised on the 41st side of the Queens Bridge housing projects better known as the home to hip hop pioneers such as MC Shan, Roxanne Shante, Nas and super producer Marley Marl, Sham’s stardom began at the age of 15 years old.
As a young boy growing up in the belly of such crime infested housing projects the streets gave him more than enough taste on life. “Experience is the best teacher” says Baby Sham therefore in order to keep him from becoming a product of his environment he decided to take the one many talents and turn it into something which is rapping and with that being in 1995 he united with five hometown friends and formed the group Killa Kids. All the members of the group including Sham ages ranged from 14-20 years old. The creativeness, clever phrases and metaphors that the 6-member group had were unreal for such young boys, which later quickly caught the attention of the entire Queens Bridge projects. Killa Kids had enough talent not only in their music but also in their stage presence to take it to the next level; club promoter calls began pouring for bookings and the Kids began to be publicly known throughout different boroughs. In 1996 the Kids performed at one of the biggest show cases to set their careers off which was Ralph McDanials “Video Music Box” hosted by Crazy Sam, which lead them to win a 2nd Place prize of recording their first single which would be pressed to vinyl and distributed to all of the major record pulls. One week later before the distribution began to take place the Kids first single made it to the largest New York city radio station of hip hop & R&B, Hot 97, and was aired on Marly Marl and Pete Rock’s “Future Flavors” segment. Killa Kids careers took off in such of a rapid speed and because of creative differences the group was later dismantled. Baby Sham’s attention from fans from Killa Kids remained as he went off to begin his solo career.
