Monét "Tanza" Thompson's soulful vocal foundation, like many legends before her, began at church where a strong passion for music and singing was installed in her from early on. Born in Tallahassee, the little city with the big name, Tanza nurtured her crafts by not only singing at church, but also acting in school plays. Nevertheless, every summer she was engrossed in Florida's other capital, Miami, where her sassiness was shaped. Here, Tanza develop a particular essence that embodied the true zest of Miami.
However, there are those with analogous humble beginnings such these, but only a few embrace true and lasting talent that shines through. With an intense love for real music, Tanza found particular comfort, not just in singing, but also in lyrics. Through these combined elements, Tanza creates music that is heartfelt, relatable, energy packed, and most importantly, bona fide. At the impressionable age of eleven, she wrote her first song, "Ya Too Big Now but Cha Fall." She found comfort in her new talent and established it as her place to shine.
Tanza has gained determination to uphold a musical tradition of excellence through a variety of inspiring and multi-talented artists like Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Missy Elliot, Lauryn Hill, Jill Scott, Escape, TLC, and NeYo. Although she considers herself "just a soul singer," Tanza embodies the definition of what is to come. This young songstress wants the world to know that with her, it is the whole package, not just writing or just singing.
Coming from the same city as current chart topper T-Pain , Tanza has solidified her skills through valuable experiences such as singing with The Chapter, one of the region's most recognized groups, and performing regularly at some of Florida A&M University's annual concerts. She has also graced the stage at one of South Florida's largest multicultural festivals, The Mango Festival. In addition, she has opened up for major names like Young Jeezy, TI , Bun B, Avant and Lil Webbie and more.
This singer-turned-writer continues to blossom in a variety of unique areas like writing and publishing. She has established her own company called Tanza's Music Publishing and is working on an upcoming book along from just graduating from Florida A&M. Her list of talents continue to flow as she recently made her acting debut in the film "Dreaming in Color" by James Bland. In addition, Tanza's new single, "What If," produced Crushendo is catching the ears of may women across the internet, blogs, college dorm rooms and the streets. The song talks about the risk of falling in love and getting hurt and how her fears may push the person she loves away. A song well written anyone women across the globe can relate to. As Tanza puts it "I write real music, I sing from my heart and my soul not only can you hear it but you can feel it that's whats separates me..."
As of now, her name is not followed by a long list of major industry collaborations, but what does powerfully resonate is that people love Tanza and the pure talent she displays. With her outgoing personality, big sense of humor, and love for people, this is surely the beginning of a beautiful and true friendship between Tanza and music.
