About Me
Dear President Obama

I wanted to take this time out to tell you how proud of you I am. To know where you come from and what you stand for has lifted me up and change my life in a huge way. October 14th 2008 was the day I decided I was going to go in a new direction in my life thanks to the inspiration I got just from reading, and watching you speak. I too was raised by my grandma but fortunate enough to be raised by my mom also who instilled the values of life in me. I ignored everything they taught me and choose the path of the streets cause I seen the fast money and nice cars. I always talked about how I wanted to change and do something positive for my kids so I could be around to raise them and finally after following you the last 8 months it really showed me how far we come as a country. You gave me hope to know that I could better myself. Over the last 12 to 13 years I have been in the streets trying to get money the fast way. Because of what I seen in you made me believe that I can change and 1 day when my kids get older 1 of them might be able to become President. It’s been a long journey I know I should have been dead or in jail a long time ago but God has a purpose for everybody. I am like you in many ways and that’s what caught my interest in you. You know I will probably never meet you to tell you Thank You in person so that’s why I am writing you this letter. I know that you lost your Mom and Grandma so I figured I would reach out to you and ask you if you wanted to share my Grandmother with me? She is a sweet lady born and raised in Memphis Tennessee and her name is Mrs. Jeffries. I know she would be truly delighted to make you some Roast, or Neckbones, or maybe even some Candy Yams, and Greens. You have inspired so many kids my age to get out and vote I was glued to the screen everyday at my grandma house wherever I was just to watch the updates and rallies. CNN was my most watched television show last year I would go to sleep to it and wake up to it. It’s not everyday that men my age come from where I have come from make it out of that environment and get 2nd and 3rd chances at life and to make something out of it. I am 27 years old born and raised in Richmond California most people never heard of the city until they hear about the movie Coach Carter. I have witnessed it all with my own eyes homicides, drug dealing, prostitution, and lots of other illegal activities. When I really learned of who you where I started digging into your background seeing the obstacles you over came to get to where you are at now. The hope you have inspires us young and old Black, White, Latino, Asian. That letter you wrote to your Daughters it brought tears to my eyes because when I read it I felt like you where speaking to my son’s and my daughter. Your words bring light to a dark room and for that I want to tell you thank you. I had no idea what direction my life was headed in until I started sitting down and learning about you. That’s what made me sit down and think to myself I don’t want to continue down this path anymore. I like helping people I like to see others happy before I am happy. My family never condoned what I was doing they never liked 1 bit of what I was doing but they new the reason I was doing it was to try and create a better situation for them. But what I never realized is I never tried hard enough to do what was right I always wanted the easy way out until October 14th 2008. I will not sit here and make a excuse for why I use to live a life that I put behind me but I will say I am glad I got the option of getting 1 last chance to do it the right way. It’s my promise to my Mother, Grandmother, Kids, and Friends that I will not stray back down that path. I never really could figure out how come you never came to the Bay Area and spoke or held a rally. I know its a lot going on out in the world in other cities and states but I can assure you that your presence alone would be a huge impact not just to the Black Community but also to the Whites, Asians, and Latinos who all followed you and backed you during the tough fight. I know there are more people that want to speak out and tell you thank you. You know it was a lady at church that told me I would not live to be 21 when I was 14 and every since that day I always lived each day as it was my last never planned for my future. Now I sit down and reflect on my life and where I cam from to where I am now and I sit and wonder how fast time past by in such a short amount of time. Words cant express how grateful I am to you for all you are going to do for not just me and my kids but for the world. You are the true example of that saying Only In America. I not only want to thank you but I also want to thank each and every individual who helped get you elected. Who knows maybe 1 day you will stop by California and pay my neighborhood a visit maybe even sit down and have a burger at Nations with me. I just know that there are people who need you out my way and when I say need you I don’t mean monetary needs I mean need to hear you in person see you in person. I know my area is not the only neighborhood living in poverty, violence, and homelessness but I can sure you between Oakland and Richmond California we are top 10 in all 3. What a difference it would make to hear from you it does not have to be personally I want it to be for the people in my community and around the entire Bay Area. Come fill our hearts with the hope come inspire those living on the streets who know nothing other than robbing, stealing, and murdering. Do you know how many job interviews I went on before I just completely wanted to give up and said it’s no use but then I would watch CNN and see you speaking and get motivated again to get back out there and continue to look. Last year was 1 of the best years of my life I got to see my son play his 1st game of little league football my daughter doing gymnastics. My father was always around but never really did to much for me when I was younger never went to my baseball or football games. I have only told 2 people in my entire life this. Me and my fathers relationship was strained due to him accusing me of stealing, and choosing a woman over me. Since I have gotten older I have regain some relationship with my father who has changed for the better and now lives a positive life. My dad was very violent towards woman I saw him knock my brothers mother tooth out her mouth. My dad use to have a drinking problem and how I learned how to drive is he was so drunk he almost ran us off a cliff when I was like 10 I told him to give me the keys and let me drive or I was getting out the car. I always wondered what it was like to have your dad at the games cheering for you screaming your name and last year I got to see how that felt to see the look on my boys face. His first game I cried because I was so happy I was ALIVE to see that day. I never thought I would make it but I did. I know your little girls have got to be the luckiest kids on earth to have such a great Father like you. You know I before I close my eyes every night I look up to the ceiling in my bed and I ask the Lord to continue to Bless me and keep me out of harms way to guide me and strengthen my soul to make me more humble and patient to watch over my kids, my mom, grandma and family cause I never know what the next day may bring. I have done so much in my lifetime and have caused so much pain to others that you never know when it will all come back to you. Whether you know it or not you are going to help me and other men be better Fathers to our children because we believe. In order for my community to get better it’s going to take fathers from different parts of the cities to get together and sit down and discuss why we are raping, robbing, stealing, and most of all killing each other over territory that does not belong to us! There are a lot of people who talk about community organizing but I don’t see much of it where I am from so I am reaching out to you someone who has helped and sacrificed long days countless hours to making neighborhoods, cities and states better. I moved out the hood as they would call it 8 years ago but never lost touch with it because of family members and friends. When I go back to me city every weekend I still find myself looking over my shoulder even though I don’t live that life style. The woman all over the world deserve a lot of credit for trying to raise us on there own. I am living testimony of coming from a good background and being given the proper love and support but still went astray and did what I wanted to do. So when I hear people pointing the finger at parents for there kids being out of control it’s not the parents fault all the time it’s what you see when your growing up. If your dad is a professional football player growing up 9 times out of 10 you see there child playing some type of sport. If your in a neighborhood and all you see is drugs, violence, and sex that’s all you will eventually grow to know. It’s true some kids have stronger minds and will power than others but a lot of kids live in such poverty the only way they can survive is to sell drugs or steal from people. I am not proud of anything I have done as a child and I would never want my child to endure the life style I lived so there for I have made oath with myself to always live a positive lifestyle from here on out. I want people to know that no matter what your life situations are you can over come anything I found that out October 14th 2008. That’s the day I decided that I was going to hustle hard in a legitimate way. I started my own Business. It’s not much but what I sure can tell you it’s totally legit and I was Blessed by a man name Henry who believed in me. I never told him what my situation was but when he called me in December 0f 2008 and granted me the opportunity to work I told him I would not let him down. Since that day I have worked my butt off countless nights and days and now when my son’s or daughter says Daddy can I go to work with you I can look them in the eye and smile and say you sure can. I owe you a thank you Mr. Obama for all this new hope and energy you have inspired inside of me. I always said if I could do 1 thing over in life that would be to go to school and get the proper education. I was always told enjoy your childhood cause before you know it it’s gone. I wish I could sit down and talk with you and see what gave you the courage, the ambition, drive, and determination to want to make a change and help others like you have. I can tell you we are like each other in a lot of ways I love my grandmother dearly and when I found out your grandmother passed I cried because I felt like I lost apart of me I know how being close to your grandma feels I just hope that if I am alive when my grandma passes that God gives me strength that he gave you cause she means everything to me to know that there are millions of grandmothers and mothers out there that are like yours and mines that struggled to make sure there kids had and still received no acknowledgment. I remember you saying how sometimes your grandmother would put off buying that new coat or dress for herself just to make sure you had new gym shoes or clothes I to can relate to that and that’s why I wanted to change so I can finally give back but in the right way. You know watching you get elected was like going to church hearing the preacher preach and your feeling like he is talking to you or the choir singing that song and your emotions just take over and tears of joy just starts to flow from your eyes. That’s what watching you get elected felt like. I felt a breath of fresh air I felt like you where not for the rich to keep getting richer and the poor getting poorer. I am sure you have a lot going on in the cabinet the economic stimulus bill which you bet your 2nd term on or national security measures. I just want you to know that I am still watching you closely. I never really even cared about what went on in politics and till you came about never got involved with the world or the economy. You came along and made not just me but others my age with kids think like hay where do I see my kids at in 10 years? Where do I want them to be in 10 years? What do I want them to be able to accomplish in the next 10 years? You’re a man of courage, hope, wisdom, and passion and I hope my son grows up 1 day and has that same fire you have inside you inside him. It’s crazy how my 4 year old daughter will see you on TV and say that’s my President I say who she says you know his name I am like what’s his name she says Barrack Obama I say who is that she says that’s my President. So not only do you have the elders who believe but you also have toddlers who believe in you. Before I depart I want to leave you with a final Thank you Poem Mr. Obama.
