- Survive Through Struggle also known as S.T.S was made up by two young up and coming artist known as Rell, Jerrell Jenkins, and Money Bagz, Messiah Hill. Both artists were born and raised in New York City, but then later relocated in Northern Virginia where they worked their way up and earned their place in the music business.
Biography
Jerrell Jenkins was born and raised in Bronx, New York on September 23, 1986. He was brought up by his grandmother, mother, and step-dad, Rell was never aware of the fact that he had a real father because he left Jerrell before he was two years old. He was the oldest of three children, and do to that he was forced to have to grow up at a very young age. At the age of ten Jerrell’s parents felt that they would have a better life if they moved from New York to Woodbridge, Virginia. Ever since then Virginia has been their home, but Jerrell does go back to New York City to visit his other family members and friends. Rell was not able to enjoy most luxuries that his other friends were blessed with, but everyone that knows Jerrell’s mom knows that she did the best she could. At the age of fourteen Jerrell started working in order to help his mom support the rest of the family. During that year he lost his grandmother and realized that his mom needed any extra help do to the tragedy. The loss of Jerrell’s grandmother hit him the hardest, and in order to cope with the pain he kept himself busy by playing basketball and writing. Jerrell lived in Woodbridge, Virginia for about eight years and then was later moved to Stafford, Virginia to finish out his high school career. Soon after moving to Stafford, Virginia Rell met his right hand man Jakwon Warron better known as Deuce. As the time went by they built up their group known as Darkside, but later on was renamed Triple R; “Real Recognize Real.” Later down the road Jerrell met up with James Sibert, who is also known as J.T., and ended up being Rell and Deuce’s mentor and has been ever since. Unfortunately Deuce was incarcerated for ten months, and it’s now up to Jerrell to hold down the Triple R movement. During that time he met and battled against his partner in crime Messiah.
Messiah Hill was born and raised in Jamaica Queens, New York on September 24, 1988, where he and his family lived for fifteen years. Unlike Rell, Money Bagz began his rapping career at the age of nine. Messiah recorded his first track on cassette tapes using his computer’s microphone as the recording device. After living in New York for fifteen years, Messiah and his family moved to Woodbridge, Virginia where he met Slime and J. The three decided that they would start their own label which was later called the “Stick Up Crew,” and this label consisted of four artists; Slim, Jay, AZ, and Money Bagz. After two years Messiah was later moved to Stafford, Virginia where he began rapping in his high school battles. He slowly earned his rank and respect with the crew do to the fact that he was the new guy in the group. While moving his way up in the group Messiah was able to meet a guy by the name Bottomline who owned his own label called “One in Da Chamber,” which lead to Messiah’s first signing. When Messiah first started off he was known as Ace, but later learned that there was another rapper that shared the same name so they both decided to battle for the rights of the name. As you can see Messiah did not win the battle for the rights of the name, but as the story goes in his eyes there was a lot of favoritism amongst the crowd. Being that Messiah was both young and motivated by money he decided that he would go by “Money Bagz.”
Jerrell and Messiah both started out in different cliques that battled against each other, but later decided to do a collaboration together that ended up producing one of the hottest mix tapes in the D.M.V called “Talk to the Bosses.” Ever since the popularity of their first mix tape the two have been inseparable making history in the music business one song at a time.
