"Whats up, Im Que. Im the best midwest artist and global artist period. Im only 17 yrs old, I been on b.e.t 106 & park, b.e.t news,in billboard magazin & ebony magazine, google QUINTES QUE AUSTIN, QUE IN EBONYJET, AND LOOK ME UP ON UTUBE,…"
When rapper Quintes "Que" Austin wrote "Can't Keep Running Away" - a poignant track about childhood bullying and abuse - he couldn't have imagined the amount of national attention he'd receive.
Since releasing the song in December, Que has appeared in Ebony, Jet and Billboard magazines. He was also interviewed for a special segment of BET News in February, and his video for the song, featuring local R&B singer Patrice Downey, was aired that month on BET's popular video show "106 & Park" - a major coup for a local rapper without a major-label deal.
Currently promoting his new single, "Yo' Chain Fake," the 17-year-old rapper is poised to become Milwaukee's youngest rap sensation.
Catch him performing at 9 p.m. Friday as part of "Legends in the Making," a benefit concert for the Neighborhood House, at Milwaukee Area Technical College's Cooley Auditorium, 700 W. State St. Tickets are $20 at the door.
*Latest project: *"Man on Fire" album, coming soon.
*Back story: *I started rapping at age 9. It started as sort of a hobby, and then I soon realized I had found something I was good at.
*Describe your style: *Truthfully, I don't like to think that I have one style. I believe myself to be very versatile, and it's heard in my music and seen in my performances.
*People say you sound like: *I heard that there's a similarity to Lil Wayne from a few people.
*Sell yourself in 30 words or less: *I'm a humble guy that has a dream and the motivation and dedication to become a success.
*Song you've written that you're most proud of: *"Can't Keep Running Away." It touched on many subjects that occur daily in the homes of my peers that might not have been known to the outside world or openly discussed until now. I like to think I've encouraged and empowered some girl or some boy in the world to take a stand and not keep running and hiding.
*Song you play to get the crowd crazy: *"Champion." The beat is hot, and it gets the crowd moving.
*Most memorable Milwaukee hip-hop event: *"The Gathering," V100's music forum with music industry executives. They gave insight and advice on the things we as upcoming artists need to know.
*Influences:* Bob Marley, Eminem and, of course, Lil Wayne.
*Where do you see yourself in five years?: *As a young successful artist and an accomplished young man.
*Why do you do this: *Because I love it, and because of the chance to tell my story; to tell the world about Que the Yung CEO; where he comes from and where he's going.
