About Me
Maui
(M.aking, A.ll, U. I.mpatient)

People are drawn to hip-hop for many reasons. For some it’s the sound, others it’s overall feel of the culture. But for those like North Carolina emcee Maui, rhyming is in their blood, something they’re born into.

“My mother wrote rhymes,” said Maui. “I knew I could rap, when I saw my mother write a rhyme for my sister called, “A Mothers Rap.”

After watching his mother ghost write rhymes for his sister, Maui (M.aking A.ll U. I.mpatient) knew that he wanted to try his hand at controlling the microphone and rocking the crowd.

Honing his skills by watching shows like “Pump it up” on Saturday nights and imitating his favorite artists, Maui began to put together his own style and sound.

“Honestly, the style I got is more like my personality. It’s not a made up style so it comes easy to me. When you have to create a style, that’s when it takes a while.”

Growing up for Maui had its hardships. While still in the womb from, Maui would move with his mother from New York city to South Carolina was he born.

“My mom left my father in New York, pregnant with me at the time. She told him she was going up the street to her dads’ crib but she went to the Greyhound. She made it out with no money.”

Attracted to the street life early, drugs and violence were apart of his daily routine. A rebellious spirit, his views would often clash with his mothers. Soon, he would find himself on the streets and on the run.

His turbulent life would lead to him being led back his mother Charlotte in handcuffs. “There was a warrant out for my arrest,” said Maui about his life “State troopers caught up to me. I was brought back to Charlotte where my mom was living”

Shackled in handcuffs, Maui was brought back to the Crown City and reunited with his mother. He’s lived in Charlotte ever since.

“Westside, Tuckaseege Blvd, West Blvd, I’ve done lived all over. North Charlotte, the Plaza, Eastside, South blvd, I lived there! I’ve lived all over Charlotte”

Still in knee deep the streets, Maui would duck several life and death situations before he realized that a life of rhyme would be better than a life of crime.

“I’ve seen my cousin shot in the head. I had to save him by pushing his brain back in his head! I’ve got shot twice myself…..Carrying gold plated guns, cooking up and serving fiends when I was 15. After a while man, the s*** got old!”

With one foot in the streets and one in a recording booth, Maui would make the decision to take the music route after meeting his future business partner Lyte.
"I met Lyte through my dude Mavo," said Maui "They wanted to sign me, They had already put together the company; "GoHard Entertainment".

Unfortunately soon after Mavo would choose to redirect his attention to one of his many other business ventures, which in turn allowed Lyte and i to restructure the company and push forward with with the original plan.

“We like Jay and Bleek” said Maui about his relationship with his business partner Lyte.

3 years later, Maui is ready to break open not just the Carolinas, but the industry itself with his street based reality raps.

Simply calling his style “Gangster Hip-hop” Maui uses his lyrical gifts to breath life into the real life stories and events that he pens. The finished product is a sound that’s ready radio ready and street certified!

Currently his single “I’m a Rider” is heating up the streets and the mixtape scene while he puts the finishing touches on his yet untitled debut solo album.

“I’m working on a classic. I’ve never put an album out. I always did mixtapes. With the album, when you pop it in, you’re going to have to just let it ride.”

Maui is showing that in 2008, he’s taking his destiny into his own hands by trailblazing his own path and creating an outlet for other young talent.

“I put my all into this. I cancelled out the smoking and the drinking and I’m just burying myself in music.”

2008-2009 looks to be the big introduction for Maui and the Charlotte music scene
