“I never had anything, when I use to look in the mirror, I didn’t like what I saw so I always considered my self raggley,” says Capital Punishment artist James Walters AKA Cagnie. With this statement this West Philadelphian, “ Bottom” native has made art imitate in the most profound way.
After listening to Cagnie’s impassioned debut on Capital Punishment’s compilation album and mix tape, this young man has created a slick, action packed, hard-hitting delivery that incorporates street tales of gangster/crime drama’s through his own life experiences.
“I had to hustle to survive,” confesses Cagnie, with the look of determination on his face. “I started freestyling at around 9-10 years old copying my sister’s husband and his drunk friends,” announces Cagnie with a hearty laugh. “ Then I started to write my s*** down on paper and continued to practice.”
Shortly thereafter, “Cagnie” was born. He took the name after watching old James Cagney movies and combined it with his street persona to make him and his lyrics stand out.
Today you can hear Cagnie shoot the gift and add ghetto-drama to the Capital Punishment’s compilation album YOU TRAPPED NOW PASS OFF! James Cagnie “GET TO KNOW ME” (solo dvd & soundtrack) and “HELLO” mixtape hosted by Ace McClowd.
