Born in Saint-Maure Des Fossés, Val de Marne (94) on June 10, 1990, French/Cameroonian Jean-Yves aka Jay aka Gen Ivous spent the 14 first years of his life in Qatar, Middle East, surrounded by a fascinating musical atmosphere. At the age of 12, Jay decided he would one day impose his own musical touch and started off by working on his lyrics.
It's just after his return to France in 2004 that a real opportunity was offered to him by the independent label, FatLab Productions, through some recording sessions. Some noticed the young man was a real source of talent, making him realize he had a true gift for Hip Hop. His natural drive and motivation made him want to start working on his talent, at least for his own leisure in the first place. The will to convey strong messages makes Jay calmly acknowledge, “the success and recognition might eventually come later”.
And for that same reason, he sets his life and studies around his passion: the love of sound; and never does he question whether or not his dream will come true because this is the path he has chosen and he plans on going all the way.
By the time he was 16, he started creating his own beats, which led him into making new connections. At the same time, Jay kept focusing on making breathtaking beats and writing catchy lyrics that usually are a respond to those who underestimate him.
Nobody knows the future and success might be long to come, or worse never show up but Gen Ivous truly believes that hard work and determination pay off and he definitely intends to get his check sooner or later. Even though he’s doing this just for the love of it until now, his main objective is to one day be able to live from his art.
