My name is Freddy Long. For starters, the moniker Freddy Long is originated from Freddy L of Freddy L. Diablo meaning Freddy The Devil but I dropped Diablo because I didn't want to continue calling myself a devil. I wanted to create music professionally since I was 14 after watching The Neptunes when Producer of the Year from The Source Awards in 2001 and found out they were the masterminds being all the music I was feeling at the time. I started out with a radioshack keyboard and a karaoke machine. I had to do everything manual no looping or sequencing. Just playing it out 3 or 4 minutes. I learned overdub recording before I learn the term for it. Swapping tapes and recording back and forth to lay different sounds on them. I did that for a while then I found a ProSound and Stage Lighting catalog and I asked my mom to buy a drum machine which was the Zoom RhythmTrak RT-223. I learned sequencing before I knew the term to that from the RhythmTrak. I learned the parts of a drum kit. I was making music but I didn't know how to stream music to get recorded. Absolutely, no education on auxiliary cords, I/O or anything at that matter. Due to music I started putting my schooling to the side. I use to bring my RhythmTrak to Computer Programming class and would showcase my beats, I wasn't making music or records yet just beats. After finding out I wanted to do music as a career it ultimately lead to me dropping out which I regret now not for educational purposes but walking the stage with people I grew up with. So, I opted for Job Corps to hopefully help me get a decent job so I can start buying my own equipment. Things never exactly go out as planned. I ended up quitting Job Corps out of frustration with the whole program. I wasn't worrying about the music after I left Job Corps just trying to be situated because I was 16 going on 17 then. I ended up staying with my aunt. While, I was staying with my brother just around the corner from my aunt I ended meeting a guy named Vincent, I admit I wasn't a fan of him at first because of his sexual preference but I was told he had a keyboard and I haven't touched a keyboard in years prior so I went up to meet him and he was actually cool. He didn't know too much about the Korg Triton just how to play, not making sequences, or creating songs. So, he gave me the manuals and told me to study it which I did. I learned how to get around to various sounds you'll die for, cue list a sequence, and make music. Thats when I graduated into creating music. I self-taught myself music theory because I was learning which sounds set certain moods. He let me use the Triton for awhile but I started getting caught up with my adolescence. I withdrew from music. I moved and had absolutely no way of making music so ended up ordering FL Studio 6 better known as Fruityloops. I never actually liked the program simply because using a TRITON to downgrading to FL was drastic. My 1st tracks weren't any good I couldn't use the formulas I created with the RhythmTrak and Triton. FL lead me to getting my credit card so I could buy a midi keyboard controller. One by the makers of the Triton, Korg's MicroKontrol. I still use it till this day. It was alright but not my potential, though. I met this guy better yet character named Charlie, talented artist and drummer, he let me use his computer to work FL. He has absolute faith in my music because he seen my passion. He's bipolar so that messed up a lot of days I felt like composing music. I would use the FL Studio but I never was really feeling it because it lacked swing and I wasn't getting out the music in my mind. I still used it ended up buying samples because the stock sounds were horrendous to me. Around this period though I was teaching myself unknowingly how to compose listening to key. I left music alone for a long time because my fiancee gave birth to our son and I had to work to support us. Then, I started reading on the music “BUSINESS” thats overlooked by most artist. By 18 I attained my very own publishing name with ASCAP, I studied the percentages producers are given, what their paid from to how many is split down through everyone involved in a project. As of recent I started using Ableton's Live 6 to compose. As I progress my music starts to get more in-depth and cater to a much broader audience.
