Im a Native New Yorker, director, innovator, producer, educator with a MS degree in Humanities, playwright, mistress of ceremony, and a SAG actress I am a woman of creativity and vision. My love for theater took root in the late 80's where I traveled all over the tri-state area performing in plays, films, and TV. "Passion can take you where you are able to succeed".
I studied acting under the tutelage of Yale University graduate Dr. Helen Yalof training in improvisation, commercial, voice over, scene study, and technique. And although I have acted for many years and have mastered my craft, directing has become my passion. My extensive work in directing includes a wide range of original, contemporary, and classic plays. I love directing, a title I claimed in the early 90's.
I continue to write, produce, and direct productions that appeal to all genres. My extensive stage director credits include many plays such as "A Raisin in the Sun," "The Amen Corner," "A Woman's Worth," “Waiting With Open Arms,” "Skeletons" and "Dreamgirls" for which I had the wonderful opportunity to direct and co-produce at Symphony Space on 95th Street and Broadway with a phenomenal production team.
I am the visionary behind Community Idol, a performing arts showcase and competition. In June 2007 and 2008, Conrad Dimanche, A&R & President at Bad Boy Entertainment was one of the judges for this annual competition.
I am a multi-faceted, community minded woman who is the co-founder of BAB's Filmworks and Theatrical Productions and the founder of Deekyshaeel Entertainment and Just Blessed Productions. A fashion show which highlights women and men30- 40and older entitled 40+ is another one of Dara's many ideas. My mind is always thinking of another master plan.
My present endeavor include a themed calendar which showcases the bold, black and beautiful. My future endeavor is to establish my own drama, dance, and music & arts school in my Queens community for inner city youth. Believe, Achieve Succeed!!
