- DubJay was born in Jamaican in the early 1980s at linstead public hospital. At an early age is mother and father separated; this made him silent and withdrawn from the regular kids. Growing up in the town of linstead St Catherine was very hard at times for a young boy, so jay with the great influence of his uncle Devon brooks (former Jamaican soccer player) found a great interest in soccer. Jay became a good soccer player and went on to play for his primary and high school (Charlemount High School) but after the lack of jobs drove his mother to migrate to the U.S, he lost interest in soccer and became best friends with his radio. DubJay started to perform at his high school class parties and with a voice like elephant man give him popularity and the name Lil Elle. After a few years he joined his mother and four brothers in the big apple. While Jay was adjusting to Brooklyn and a new School he meet a member of a reggae group by the name of Hard fi deal wid and soon after became a member. The group was together for three year but, because of differences and misunderstanding the group broke up making Jay an unsigned solo artist. Dubjay has performed alongside and has an opening act for artist such as merciless, vybes kartel, idonia and troublesum in various parts of the states. He is known as a unique artist because of the way he delivers lyrics over beats. He uses a combination of rap, R&B and reggae music to create what he calls newzic or others may call flip music. With underground hits songs like “friend wid benefits”, “low” and “supercouche” proves that he has what it take to step into mainstream reggae/dancehall music world.
