So There has been so much talk of these guys and there might have been posts but f*** it this is my opinion and right at the top. So lets get into it. The numbers are on 1-10 scale of how good they are as artists ALONE. Then I will state what i think there chances are of making it into the mainstream.
First up
Charles Hamilton- 6.5- For me he's hit and miss. Deffinately is lazy on the mic sometimes, but can bring it enough for me to get his mixtapes. I think he might have the most potential cause he's already got his beef in place with your boy to get peoples attention. Brooklyn Girls is mad catchy and he is a love or hate artist. which is actually a good thing in hip-hop cause you got a million hating and a million loving and thats two million listening. He has the sonic thing and is mad weird and when you're not trying to be differnt and just are people get interested.
Corey Gunz -8- He's obviously got the lyrics and can flow very well(two different things) unfortunately for him i think that could ultimately be his downfall. Everything he puts out these days excites me (nh) but, as i get each hot verse i wonder if he will actually be able to put out an album that is listenable for more than a week without just sounding like more of the same. I really like Gunz and I can't wait to see him develope as an artist even if it takes a few years for him to be complete
Asher Roth- 7- Plz read this and understand what im bout to say b4 crucifying me. I think if Asher comes out before Em Does he will have a really good chance to really blow up next year and could literally affect Em's Comeback. On the other hand if Em comes out before Roth then I think everyone who is not a fan of him now might not eva be cause they will just see him as a carbon copy. I like to hear him flow he's entertaining but he can get off track sometimes
Wale- 9- As an artist he seems like he has the music thing the most rounded. He can spread his topics over a decent range and has quite the lyrical skill. As far as his chances go I think he really will need some sort of breakthrough single to really put him on the map cause if he just goes the safe route then people might just end up seeing him as just your standard issue up north artist. but if he gets that right introduction he could be one of the biggest things of 09'
Kid Cudi- 7- I won't lie or waste you're time I really don't know too much about him have about 7 of his songs or songs with him on it and nothing stands out to me. Other than of course day and Nite Which is actually one of my favorite tracks from these cats. Gotta hear more from him
Drake- 9- Definately out of all these has the most star power potential. His presence on a track is infectious and he has shown a few times that he is worthy to rhyme right next to Weezy and not get murderd. He Can lace a wide range of instrumentals and keeps it entertaining with his it-was-there-the-whole-time-but-no-one-said-it punch lines and his words are spoken very clearly which is very important for getting a female and white fanbase. Out of them all I think Drizzy has the biggest chance to be the standout star and not just a good artist of next year. Unfortunately if he does not get the right promotion he could very well go right under the radar. I think he has to be given that star power before he can carry it himself.
Glasses Malone- 9- Who? right. Most of you won't know him but, I thought I would throw him in cause he is my personal favorite. He is mad Talented and has quite the range for your typical westcoast artist. And with the exit of The Game I think he can be a nice canadate to fill his spot. He goes as hard as Game without all the name droping so he gets more lines to tell his story or get his point across. Not to mention he gets a big co-sign from one of the hottest niggas in the game.
B.o.b. -8- Def outta all is the most creative. which doesn't always equate to good (808's) fourtunately for b.o.b. it is usually good. His lyrics are good his songs are good the beats are good and i think he's a good artist but for some reason I can't listen to his mixtape all the way through in one sitting. He should be able to make some kind of impact next year but, I don't think he will fully shine until he matures more after some years which will put him more over peoples heads than he already is. He actually could hold himself back by making differnt songs to be good instead of making good songs that are different.
So this is the list for now. Please discuss. If it gets big enough i will definately do a part two on more artist.
And Everyone I did these artist cause I like them (as artist) and I have their music in my library cause i listen to it. None of this is hate towards the artists just a realistic view on how i think the Game will accept their transitions to the mainstream
So What yall think gimmie your rundown if you want
Here's some G-Malone tracks if you want to get hip
