Em is the a label's wet dream.
Just think how marketable rap has become over the last 10 years or so. We see it incorporated in pop music and variations of that each and every day now. Why? Because kids don't wanna say they listen to pop, they say they listen to rap. So a guy that looks like them and comes through a bit of adversity so he has that to talk about in his music is already pitch-perfect, let alone the fact that dude's subject matter is so banal (and fabricated) that our bovine public EATS the s*** up.
Round that up with him not being an ugly muthafucka (pause, no homo) and you've got your image (image is everything). Then, as all non-educated in hip hop think, the faster the flow =/= the better the rapper (which is obviously not true) which is what Em uses. Follow that up with a couple corny punchlines for these kids to put on their facebook statuses and BAMN! You've got your guy!
Uhm, I'm not sure exactly how this ties in with your thread but I'd been meaning to say this s*** lol.
Basically, he's a front. Jimmy Iovine and co. are perfectly happy to let this guy portray his image and some renegade (no puns) and that he's still got his troubles even though he's sitting out platinum albums with god knows how long that you'd think his (so called) 'problems' would of deteriorated by now. Anyway, to close, f*** Em. In this day n'age at least. Because of rats like Jimmy Iovine hip hop has gone from being an art to something perniciously marketable.
