"The Story Behind The Artwork W/ Baby Obie [Trice] On The Cover Is Like It's A New Life"

[With Obie Trice's new Bottoms Up album finally available, the project's graphic designer James Dunne reveals how a live Ustream session got him a once in a lifetime opportunity.]
It was some time around the release of Kanye West's & Jay-Z's Watch The Throne because Obie was playin WTT a lot in the live stream. i'm one of those big Obie fans, it feels like ages since he actually announced Bottoms Up but I guess he had some personal things going on in his life that delayed it. I'm just glad that it's finally out after all this time.
I had asked Obie in the live Ustream how could I submit graphics to him and he gave an email address for me to send some work in. A few days later I made up some examples and submitted them to them, I got an e-mail back putting me in touch with his manager, Nabil. He told me he liked them and asked could I make a booklet for Bottoms Up and we just went from there. I was only hoping to do artwork for a single. I didn't expect to do the album, it was crazy for me.
I'm sure the story behind the artwork with baby Obie on the cover is like it's a new life, a new begining for Obie since he had been dropped from Interscope and started his own label, Black Market Entertainment its like he's stating over again. I'm sure Obie explained the meaning of the cover in an interview something along the lines of that. I got all the photos through his manager. He sent over a bunch of images where I picked which ones were best for the booklet and throughout the album packaging and he sent me the baby pic of Obie wanting it as the album cover. They actually already had an album cover for Bottoms Up before I was in contact with them but I made my own version that suited the rest of the album packaging, that's the official one now.
I plan to try and do artwork for more rappers. I'm definitely not stoping there. I've been talking to Warren G about doing the cover for his new single "Party We Will Throw Now," I have the cover made but I don't know if he's actually gonna use it yet I'll have to wait and see. I definitely want to do a cover for 50 Cent. That would be crazy for me, that's my dream.
James Dunne is an upcoming professional graphic designer. Obie Trice's Bottom's Up is available at all retailers. Feel free to follow James Dunne at @Dunne08.
