its a toss up... either walter payton or jim brown... niggas dont play hard like they did back then with injuries & less money... jim brown only played 9 seasons in the nfl & owned numerous records... walter peyton was the toughest running back 2 ever hold a ball in his hand, he never ran out of bounds & took the hits & also delivered them... barry sanders is a close 3rd, i just wished he woulda played longer...

they are phenomenal running backs.. but i just felt that the players back then on Defense werent athletic enough and in shape to contain running backs back then.... plus there were alot more white guys on defense back then during jim browns era .. and lets face facts , blacks are better at sports then whites... just being honest here... lol

i hate it when people put down emmit smith because of his o-line or because they had a banging team..
