damn they're diccriding him like crazy. I still don't see the big hype, he prolly won't go plat again. Kanye's last album has sold 1.2 mil so far and he's a lot more popular than Ross. Ross still can't sell singles without big feature. And how is Ross humble? He's prolly the most arrogant piece of s*** in hip hop next to Khaled. He can't even talk like a half normal human being, all you hear is MMG, untouchable etc.

People think all of this is about Rick Ross, but it's more to it. This is about the music industry mainly hip hop/ R&B. Commercial Hip Hop/R&B music is slowly dying. Keep in mind, you have major Hip Hop labels like Def Jam and Labels (Interscope/ Warner) with Rap/Urban divisions. They are slowly loosing revenue and budgets are getting smaller. Labels can't just survive on selling Singles, they need to sale albums. Quick math, 10 Million singles = est $8 to 10 million, 10 Million albums sold = $80 to 100 Million. Do you see the difference?Still to this day, Interscope (Aftermath/Shady)and Universal Republic (YMCMB)are the only two major Sub-labels bringing in most of the albums sales. Everyone else is bringing in peanuts compare to them.
All these major labels are following the same formula as the 90s, 00s (Ruthless, death Row, Rockafella, Wutang). The only difference now, labels don't really sign artist directly to the label unless you are an artist with huge underground fanbase or buzz like Wiz. You have to get sign through a sub label meaning G.O.O.D, aftermath/Shady, YMCMB and now MMG. It's good for the labels because they only have to worry about marketing a group instead of a bunch of individuals rappers. That is why you see all these artist signing to YMCMB, MMG, G.O.O.D.
Back to rick Ross, the urban division at Warner and Def Jam needs this Rick Ross thing to work. That is why so much money is being spend behind him. If all fails, all these artist will get cut and Warner urban division and Def Jam will probably sale their artist to other labels and close shop.
As for 50 cent, he is so ahead of his time that most fans don't realized what he is doing. If he doesn't move to another industry and still takes part of the music culture in the next 2 to 3 years, you will see. Fans don't realize G-Unit operates in the U.S and international with no major backing. G-unit seems dead to most fans because you are compare the label with others labels with Major backing and marketing dollars. Even Jay-Z removed himself from the major label structure and move to Live Nation (touring Company) which I think 50 cent will try to do after Interscope. If Hip Hop goes underground, the only labels that will be able to survive are labels with the structure and the understanding on how to operate without major labels. Trust, it can happen cause the numbers don't match the amount of marketing dollars being spent. No company can survive if you spend more than you receive.

Let's see the receipts. You talk a good talk of who is spending what but let's see the proof. If you think bisd brought in more money than was spent on it whether by interscope or 50 you are delusional. You seem to think the big budget doesn't apply to certain artists that it does. G unit label is independent not 50

Interscope give Aftermath a budget and Aftermath spend the money on their artist based on how your deal is structure. 50 is Shady/ Aftermath. Let say Aftermath/Shady lost money of BISD, but in the greater picture, Interscope made money off aftermath. Aftermath/shady consist of Dr. Dre, Eminem, 50 cent. You are focus on 50, I'm talking about the camp as a whole. You do remember Eminem last album sold over 5Million copies U.S, not including worldwide numbers and tours. Which camp as a whole is putting up the numbers like Shady/aftermath? The only one that is close is YMCMB. This is the same structure in all companies whether small or big. You loose money on one product, but make a profit with everything combine.
Let's use some logic since we are not industry insiders and are not preview to the finances. But, we can assume since this is all we can do in a forums. Let's say the MMG deal is for 10Million. MMG would have to bring in 3 to 4x that amount in order to be considered successful. Keep in mind, all the partners that have to make their cut iTune, stores, factory that make the albums, and all the middle man that have to make profit. You should read up on the music industry. In the late 90s and 00s, an artist selling Gold on a Major was considered a failure. Platinum was considered breaking even and Multi platinum was considered great. These numbers have gone down since. My guess is 500K is considered breaking even. Independent is a much small structure.
Asked yourself this question, if the industry is doing so good, why so few releases in the industry? Radio stations are shutting down, top DJs are either quitting or laid off. If MMG was doing so great, they should be able to put out albums constantly like cashmoney, No Limit, Rockefella in the 90s, shady, G-unit in 00s. Most of these artist that are sign are to create hype, but let see how many of their projects get the green light if MMG don't put up numbers.
