Universal Health Care Fails in Japan

JWR reported If universal care were the genuine cure-all, the one country where it should work is Japan. They have a homogenous population, healthier lifestyle, eat more fish and soy, more vegetables and far less obesity than here. If universal care does not work there why should it work anywhere?

Because it does not work anywhere

According to Japanese legislator Takashi Yamamoto, who was just diagnosed with cancer, "abandoned cancer refugees are roaming the Japanese archipelago." Patients are told they¹ll never get better, even when treatments exist, and many are not even informed of their diagnoses. Cancer mortality rates in Japan have been steadily climbing and are now more than 250 per 100,000, while U.S. rates are now around 180 per 100,000.
Because those treatments cost more than a funeral.

Japanese public television showed the stark contrast. In the U.S., multiple specialists meet to discuss a cancer patient¹s care. In Japan, a single doctor usually makes the diagnosis and carries out treatment with minimal consultation.

THREE HOUR WAIT FOR THREE MINUTE VISIT

And how long to wait fo the appointment.
While Japanese patients want American-style treatment, their policymakers are alarmed. With a huge national debt and corporations worried about higher taxes, they say Japan can¹t afford to pour money into treatments that can¹t extend life span by very much.

French health system gets surgery
Considered the world's best, France's healthcare system could face BANKRUPTCY.

By Peter Ford | Staff writer of The Christian Science Monitor

PARIS –
France offers its citizens the best healthcare in the world, and it isn't only the French who will tell you so. The World Health Organization ranks France at the top of its list.

The trouble is, the country cannot afford it. The French public health insurance scheme is heading for a $15.5 billion deficit this year, threatening to bankrupt the system.

"Our health system has gone mad," Health Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy told a parliamentary commission earlier this month. "Profound reforms are urgent."

But as trade unions rally in defense of free healthcare for all, the topic has become the hottest issue on the government's controversial reformist agenda, threatening further unpopularity as European parliamentary elections approach.

France is not alone in finding it increasingly hard to fund cradle-to-grave welfare systems. Across Europe, aging populations and ever more expensive medical treatments are busting budgets. The German government recently scandalized voters by introducing small charges for doctor visits and medicines.

A Look at Canadian Healthcare
Thursday, Mar 20, 2008 at 9:35:57 am

A reader commented on an article related to Canadian Healthcare that is definitely worth reading:

Charlotte Huntley, 30, went to Valley Regional Hospital on the morning of Feb. 20, complaining of severe headaches for the third time in five days.

Hospital staff gave her medication for a suspected migraine.

But when her symptoms persisted, they ordered a CT scan at about 4 p.m., which revealed swelling in her brain.

That led to a diagnosis of a possible infection of the brain lining.

Doctors in Kentville contacted the neurology unit at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre in Halifax about Ms. Huntley’s case, said her mother, Louise Misner.

Ms. Misner said doctors told her that QEII officials said no beds were available there and that her daughter should have an MRI when the Kentville MRI machine started up again the next morning.

The Valley hospital runs its MRI from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

When Valley Regional staff went to check on Ms. Huntley at about 8:20 p.m. on Feb. 20, she was unresponsive.

She was put on life support and sent to Halifax at about midnight, where an MRI revealed the tumour on her brain stem.

Ms. Huntley died in Halifax, leaving behind a husband and young daughter.

Anyone still want universal healthcare? Didn’t think so…

(Hat Tip: Bonnie)
Let me help all who want universal health care. Join the military. See problem solved. Interesting fact though is many soldiers get additional health insurance for their families because you get better service and more choices.
hey whats going on mr. hollywood... now dont spit any venom my way... i just simply want a reply....
this is a pure what if comic book type question
what if you keep regular paid health care plans open for the public, and just extend the current medicade or medicae program that we currently have to all of those who are considered to be at poor or homeless.
id like to know what you feel is the best way to help our situation out. to be honest im a little stomped by this
THE POOR AND HOMELESS CAN WALK INTO ANY EMERGENCY ROOM AND GET TREATMENT, IT'S AGAINST THE LAW TO REFUSE TO TREAT THEM. WE DON'T NEED TO POUR MORE TAX MONEY INTO MEDICARE/CAID.

What's your major concern toward's the issue? Mine's is the burden it places on the working guy/gal that work and pay too much in taxes ALREADY.

Second concern is how are the cost's and service's going to be reasonable if there is no competition to make the Gov't compete and up their services.

Lastly, I pose this "what if" to you sir:

WHAT IF EVERYBODY PAID TAXES, LIKE IN A FLAT OR FAIR TAX!
THEN EVERYBODY IS FOOTING THE BILL ON GOV'T SPENDING, EVEN THE POOR HOMELESS GUY/GAL WHO CAN COME UP WITH MONEY FOR "OTHER THINGS". FLAT TAX WOULD TAX ONLY ON PURCHASED GOODS NOT A PERCENTAGE OF YOUR WAGES. SO WHEN YOU BUY LIQUOR, A BLUNT, SHEETS, OR A HOUSE YOU PAY TAXES THAT WAY.
HOW DOES THAT SOUND?
honestly a flat tax, providing the fact that it was enough to cover all goverment spending, to me isnt a bad idea. most of us, complain about the rich not giving enough.. that complaint will never go away, so even if we have a flat tax people, and people are paying taxing at the same percent regardless of income... the american public will still be unhappy.. but id be just fine... so its safe to assume that you are all for the flat tax ... correct? oh and forgive me for taking four hourse to write back... im fresh off working a double
Yeah the flat tax is a great idea because it doesn't tax you on the wages you make, only on what you buy. If you buy then alot you get taxed alot, if you buy a little then you get taxed a little.

Cut government spending and taxing, then resort to a flat tax and the rich will spend more and build more, creating more jobs which drives the economy.

If you OVERTAX the rich they'll hide their money and stop spending and creating jobs...basically saying, "OK, let's see how the economy operates without the rich people." What's their incentive to drive the economy if the more they MAKE, the more the govt TAKES????

There needs to be a reduction on spending into government welfare programs where there are healthy, able bodied people who rather mooch of the taxpayer(government) instead of learning a trade and getting a job and becoming a productive member of society.

With a strong economy people will have money to spend and GIVE to non-profit organizations (homeless, sick, needy children and mothers, etc) It's not the govt's job to provide social programs which was only started after WWII for the sigle mothers of dead GI's. The liberal democrats took that and ran with it..expanding it into the money abyss it is now. PEOPLE TAKE CARE OF PEOPLE BY GIVING...NOT THE GOVERNMENT BY TAKING MONEY LIKE HILLARY AND OBAMA WANT TO DO.

LOL, The rich not giving enough is absurd. The top 1% of the wealthy people pay over 60% of the nations taxes in terms of dollars.

Nice chatting with you.
CORRECTION....
the FAIRTAX ACT is slightly different than the FLATTAX BILL which was killed. Write your Congressman and Senators and tell them to vote for the FAIRTAX ACT.
CORRECTION....
the FAIRTAX would not tax you on the purchasing of a home.
??? There is healthcare.
